Overall Satisfaction with SolarWinds Virtualization Manager

It is being used solely by the IT operations team. We use it primarily to watch for over and under-resourced virtual machines and those that have been shut down for an extended period time.

Pros

  • Reporting on resources allocated versus utilized\needed.
  • Memory ballooning and restrictions
  • CPU ready and wait times

Cons

  • None at this time
  • By giving us the necessary information to reduce resources on over allocated machines we can save costs on hardware and licensing.
  • By reporting and alerting to abandoned VMs, those shut down and inactive for extended periods of time, we can free up those resources for other VMs and projects.
It gives us solid evidence to support removing resources for VMs that have been over allocated saving us costs by not needing to purchase additional computer resources and licensing.
