Overall Satisfaction with ThoughtSpot

Needs better tools in the back end for data load and other backend tools for easier load. Great front end user interface.
It is being used in several departments throughout the organization.
  • Quick results
  • Drill down
  • Data load backend needs some work. Difficult to load data.
  • Needs a role that can create and manage tables that isn't the admin account
  • Better metrics about table and worksheets. How many rows, key metrics, etc.
  • Still working on ROI
For our organization, it takes one to two months to structure data appropriately for the application to handle it appropriately.
Time spent before search is needed to make sure we get accurate results
Haven't gotten there yet to determine value, we have been using the application for almost a year.
Answering 80 percent of the questions based on the data set and then use another BI application to answer more in-depth questions

Using ThoughtSpot

57 - Human Resources, Lab, Compliance
15 - Administrator - update the ThoughtSpot instance and fix bugs
Data Architects - load/update data in ThoughtSpot from our EDW

Data Analysts - to make worksheets off of the tables and make sure the appropriate groups/individuals are searching the worksheet and pinboards
  • Help with Human Resource Analytics
  • Help with Lab Analytics
  • Help with Compliance Analytics
  • We have created a Java User Group Management website which allows business owners to manage user groups rather than hiring several administrators to manage user groups for thousands of users
  • Pharmacy Analytics
  • Insurance Analytics
We have had success with the initial use cases and there are more use cases that can receive return on investment. I don't give it a 10 because other products like Tableau are building functionality that may start to compete in the coming years.

Evaluating ThoughtSpot and Competitors

  • Product Features
  • Product Usability
Being able to bring in a dimensional model and search the columns and get a visualization in seconds in a web browser.
We had several companies demonstrate their products like ThoughtSpot and decided to do a proof of concept, before purchasing ThoughtSpot, based on ThoughtSpot's features. I wouldn't do it differently.
