Overall Satisfaction with Ubiquiti Networks UniFi

Ubiquity, a U.S. company, is taking the lead in creating robust and easy-to-use wired and wireless networking hardware. Their hardware reminds me of Apple and their software aims to provide simple yet feature-full control and management points for even novices. Given the ease of deployment and affordability, we deployed several site-wide implementations with great success. As a solution, Ubiquiti Networks UniFi provides tight integration, low cost, and easy management for small to medium enterprises. The Ubiquiti Networks UniFi Access Points are especially robust and capable of supporting anywhere from 300 to 500+ clients, depending on model.
  • Excellent management platform
  • Mix of on-premises and cloud services
  • No expensive recurring licensing model
  • Robust hardware
  • Customer support is chat and email; phone support reserved for contacts
  • Firmware update releases are not very frequent
  • Some enterprise features are missing in hardware branded "pro"
  • Lower cost of ownership vs competition
  • Simplicity of deployment and operation
  • Elimination of licensing contracts
When compared to the leader, Cisco, Ubiquiti Networks UniFi cuts costs tenfold and, depending on the needs of the organization, can perform just as well. While not as customizable and feature-full, Ubiquiti Networks UniFi equipment does provide reliability and function at an incredible price-point. Just like Cisco, Ubiquiti Networks UniFi is aiming to cover the scope and breadth of the networking infrastructure needs, from switches to routers to access points, telephony and security, but also adds integrated camera and access security as additional layers. The lack of licenses to operate makes Ubiquiti Networks UniFi a good alternative to Meraki and at a lower price point. Anyone considering Ubiquiti Networks UniFi should carefully examine the support options, features, and capabilities, especially if considering moving away from Meraki or Cisco Enterprise.

Do you think Ubiquiti Networks UniFi delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Yes

Did Ubiquiti Networks UniFi live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Ubiquiti Networks UniFi go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Ubiquiti Networks UniFi again?

Yes

By providing single-pane-of-glass management for a multi-site deployment, Ubiquiti Networks UniFi makes it easy to have oversight and real-time feedback regarding the state of the network through mobile apps and web interfaces. Unlike competitors, there are no licensing costs to the hardware and the hardware itself is very reasonably priced to begin with. The ecosystem is tightly integrated with networking, security, access control and telephony all working together under the same platform. However, the main drawback is the lack of some enterprise features, which could be of concern to some organizations, therefore a deep review of the needed/desired functionality is recommended before purchase.
