Overall Satisfaction with Unitrends Recovery Series Backup Appliance

We use Unitrends to complete our daily backup of everything from file servers to our main SQL databases. Reliable backups, fast recovery, and set and forget management makes this system a must have. All software agents and tools are included in the price, with dedicated software clients for SQL, SharePoint, and Exchange. It is no longer is it necessary to purchase an add on for every client you would like to backup. It has reduced my time required daily for backup management to checking a couple of emails to ensure that everything has completed successfully.
  • Fast backups, easy recovery, and daily updates.
  • All software agents and tools are included in the price, with dedicated software clients for SQL, SharePoint, and Exchange. It is no longer is it necessary to purchase an add on for every client you would like to backup.
  • Set and forget management. It is not required to touch the system daily to ensure that your systems are getting backup.
  • Cost is a little on the expensive side. But the reliability of the system makes up.
  • System support is good but not a great as it once was.
  • System scheduling can be a little confusing until you get experienced.
  • We have been able to recover from two users that have been infected with ransomeware with little to no issues.
  • No longer need to purchase expensive replacement cartridge tapes.
  • Backup to disk and archive to disk is faster and less expensive then Tape
When you factor in the ease of use with the included software clients it is win/win with the Recovery Series Backup Appliance. No longer is it necessary to Purchase product add on's to make this system cover every system on your network. Baremetal backups make it possible to recover to non-like hardware.
Works great in small to medium sized environments. Manages backups of Virtual systems amazingly well, but has been known to cause small problems with stranded snapshots in our VM systems. Each system is backup quickly and easily, but finding the correct balance between retention and expense can be difficult. Overall a great system but plan and purchasing extra storage because backups grow quickly.

Evaluating Unitrends Recovery Series Backup Appliance and Competitors

Yes - Backup Exec. The Cost for Backup Exec and all the modules needed was expensive. When you add in the number of tapes needed to keep at least fourteen days of backups added even more to the cost of the solution. After looking into the Unitrends product it cost a little less and it was a all in one solution.

We were looking at the price more then any other factor. Although we did include function and ease of use to the decision process. The Unitrends product was a all in one solution that did not require additional tapes or modules to complete the back ups to disk. Fast easy recovery also help In the decision
No need to change we are happy with the out come and the product we purchased.

We get great support and fast response times. The customer service is very friendly and understanding to my needs. Most cases are solved during the first phone call and the product work amazing. On the rare the occasion that we must escalate the request it can be a bit of a hassle to get them to move to the next step.

Yes - We do pay for the premium support. When we have a problem we need it resolved quickly. The premium support covers the hardware, software, and tech support. Call back time are very quick and usually have a resolution on the first call. All activity is tracked and managed with email notifications.
My last ticket they solved the problem very quickly. I was using the second NIC card and it was causing a problem with one of my backups. The first level tech work for a while to resolve the problem and took it to his higher and found a solution on the fist call. The backups are working great.
