Overall Satisfaction with Unitrends Recovery Series Backup Appliance
Our unitrends appliance is being used to provide disaster recovery for both physical and virtual servers. It provides us the best recovery solution for an environment that is primarily virtual, but with a few critical physical servers remaining; and most importantly it allows us to leverage the multiple offsite retention options such as a cloud backup or offsite hard drive backups. Overall it allows us to achieve our RTO and RPO numbers through the flexibility of its technology.
- Disaster Recovery of physical and virtual servers. Many backup solutions are tailored to either a physical server or a virtual server. With Unitrends you have the option of both, and can recover physical servers into a virtual environment if needed.
- Off site backups are a requirement in any organization. With Unitrends you have the option of copying your backups to a tape drive, hard drives, or to a cloud storage provider. That flexibility works with the varying budgets to satisfy that requirement.
- The Unitrends appliance allows us to add servers on the fly since the agents are all included and each server doesn't add software cost, only storage cost.
- The Unitrends appliance changed its interface recently in version 9. It's not as intuitive and takes longer to navigate. A customized role based dashboard with clear functionality would be more useful.
- We utilize the Unitrends archive appliance to copy our backup job onto portable drives that we take off site. I would like to increase storage on the fly without having to buy hard drives that are significantly marked up.
- The Unitrends appliance has the ability to set retention goals. I would like to be able to place simple direction when to remove backups and if a backup job has the space to run with its retention goals. Also, I would like to be able to kick off a space reclamation job, instead of waiting for the appliance to run one.
- The ability to take backup jobs and archive them to a NAS appliance or an external hard drive of your choice would be useful.
- Unitrends allows us to recover files from ransomware.
- Unitrends allows us to meet our required RPO and RTO.
- Unitrends provides an affordable solution to our disaster recovery needs that doesn't require us to backup with multiple solutions because of physical and virtual servers.
Symantec sells per an agent, and can get costly as you expand. With Unitrends we can backup as many servers and with no cost for additional agents.
