Overall Satisfaction with WatchGuard Network Security

We use WatchGuard to form a VPN between our 38 sites and to provide scanning and web blocking services. We also use to manage VLAN's at the various sites.
  • VPN service with failover is a huge cost saver compared to an MPLS or SD-WAN.
  • The ability to preconfigure the devices and have them shipped to the offices without having to go to corporate first.
  • Versatility.
  • For novice users, the interface can be a little intimidating.
  • Dimension server needs to allow for uploading and downloading device configs.
  • WatchGuard has helped lower our costs by making it possible to use cheap internet paired with failover to LTE.
  • The failover ability also lets us have VOIP in offices that would normally not have acceptably stable internet. This cut our phone/internet costs by 50%.
We worked with Network Technology Partners to obtain and set up our WatchGuard system. They are quite helpful and professional. We are glad to have them as a partner.
The software is very usable for an experienced user but can be a little bit difficult for novice users.
WatchGuard has gotten rid of the kinks in their Rapid Deploy system. This means you can create all of the policy implementations ahead of time from corporate and the devices can be shipped straight to the locations. They just plug them in and Rapid Deploy goes to WatchGuard's servers and grabs the correct configuration file. This is also a huge help if there are any devices that break or are damaged in the field. A new box can be sent out that will grab all of the correct configuration data.
It is not completely all in one. There are multiple tiers and currently, management via the Dimension server is billed separately.
Sophos was a little easier to use when we purchased it, but WatchGuard included all of the functionality in its devices and was only marginally more difficult to use. WatchGuard did allow for more versatility though.
WatchGuard is well suited to dispersed companies that have 25 or less users per site. It is also great for companies that have offices in less populated areas were getting multiple high-speed connections or fiber is not really an option.
