Overall Satisfaction with WatchGuard Network Security
We use WatchGuard appliances at almost all of our client's sites. They are used across the whole organization at each of these orgs. They provide secure gateway services, web and content filtering (as needed by client), traffic shaping and analysis, and many other network duties depending on client needs.
Pros
- Simple management. The Web UI provides an easy interface for setting up and changing settings on the physical appliance.
- Web/content filtering. It is effective and easy to use.
- Traffic management. It is simple to set policies to restrict overall throughput allowed to different VLANs.
Cons
- The WebUI. There are still a few things you need to install the Watchguard server apps on a Windows machine to manage. For example, migrating settings from one device to another.
- Hardware reliability is excellent. Less money spent on hardware upgrades over time.
- Ability to renew service contract and get the latest features on existing hardware also extends lifespan.
- Trade-up program is a low-cost benefit for growing customers.
GuardSite. We deal with them almost exclusively and have had nothing but positive experiences.
Not having to research and test separate services to accompany a hardware router/gateway is a huge time and money saver.
Watchguard's offerings seem to be better integrated between hardware & services than SonicWall's.
