Use Cases and Deployment Scope

WatchGuard Network Security meets basic network security problems at good rate. I have used it on basic packet filters and more advanced detailed packet inspectors as well. Old ones (cluster) have been more than 7 years at service, newest about 1.5 years. Subscriptions are in place, but are more costly than other network security providers.

Return on Investment

Positive impact is that our enterprise network have noot been compromise
Like said before, it does its job very well on basic and some more advanced packet filtering and inspection
Negative impact would been, that zone where we are located is too many WatchGuard export or consults. Not even from reseller organisations.

WatchGuard Network Security Partner

I have installed in past setups with WG partner, lately installations and updates have been managed and operated by myself. WG partner seems to have basic knowledge implementions and basic diagnostic, but after that I figured that we are on our own here. So needed more practice and little try and error

Implementation Rating

Would like to have also non-English support or expert visit our organisation, to see how we are doing. But nothing insights to go at this time. Problems that I can remember in past implementions, ware problems at WG false positives on spoofed internal traffic, not know how other companies does it, but seems that sometimes to work-a-round could mean that you should spoof ip-address or two.

WatchGuard Network Security Packaging and Licensing

Its simplifies thigs at least, would like to have this remain at future. Cloud implementations should be separated, so customers that don't want to put resources at cloud environments don't have to. Not aware of any other benefits that could useful our organization or others. Licenses could be more affordable for small business if WG would like me to endorse them.

Alternatives Considered

Microsoft ForeFront Unified Access Gateway (Discontinued) and Fortinet FortiGate

Simplicity to implement but more advanced features on monitor and logs management, could be find on other products. Good for small and medium business needs when there is not many administrators working at the same time. WG is good to implement other manufacturers' technology to their products. Nothing else comes at my mind

Likelihood to Recommend

Small and medium business, that uses mainly services at on-premises or cloud environment. WatchGuard has a lot to offer, but bigger environments that have more people working on it-dep. policy manager can be very difficult to operate on many administrators at same time. Logging traffic could be more detailed, at the diagnostic perspective its hard to see where network traffic stops and why. WatchGuard may let traffic get through only to lose it when it should jump interface to another.

Good security for Small and Medium Business at some how reasonable cost
