Overall Satisfaction with WatchGuard Network Security

We are an MSP and use WatchGuard for firewall, proxy, and MFA functions. It has been our principle security appliance for small to medium organizations in our market area. We find it integrates well with other monitoring tools and allows us to provide a comprehensive security offering while carefully controlling costs and complexity.

Pros

  • Inexpensive, reliable function.
  • Easy to configure and manage.
  • Good renewal tracking as a partner.

Cons

  • Reputation in industry. Not considered an enterprise.
  • SD-WAN functionality is weak.
  • SEIM integration and XDR are somewhat light.
  • Inexpensive to purchase and maintain.
  • Good visibility into renewal cycles and end of life.
  • It's easy to train staff on management.
We are a partner! That said, the firewall implementation is one of the easier parts of an MSP implementation. Implementing the MFA and AD functions is a little trickier, but it is very much a cookie-cutter process to make happen. As long as there are no unusual requirements, the implementations are very smooth and easy.
Everyone is offering a unified security platform these days. Almost none of them are truly unified and able to manage all security products and solutions from one place. The WatchGuard platform effectively integrates the most common and standard items that most small businesses would need, and we find it plays well with others.
It does depend on the organization being supported and the complexity of their cloud requirements. For standard cloud (Office 365, Google Office, etc), it does a good job. For more complex environments, it becomes unmanageable and may lack the level of granularity that might be needed. It's a good general-use product.
Principle reason is price. We find that performance is roughly equal, as well as ease of use. We have a significant Barracuda presence in our enterprise customers, but the sheer volume of small to medium customers and the cost delta points us at the WatchGuard product line more often than others.

Do you think WatchGuard Network Security delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with WatchGuard Network Security's feature set?

Yes

Did WatchGuard Network Security live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of WatchGuard Network Security go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy WatchGuard Network Security again?

Yes

Small businesses with minimal requirements and low traffic on their web servers are good targets. The product will meet most cybersecurity insurance requirements. Many small offices using cable modems or other 'consumer-grade' internet connections that need to be managed by a small team are a good target. Large-scale integration into SOCs or with specific SDWAN or other tool integrations may not work well.
