Overall Satisfaction with Wix

I use Wix for my personal design portfolio. My use of Wix has nothing to do with the company I work for. I use it as a display of the work I did in college and now heading into my professional career. I chose Wix because of its ability to customize and create a unique website while maintaining a fairly easy user interface.
  • For not having any coding/website building knowledge the site is easy to maneuver and understand what steps need to be taken to create your personal site.
  • Wix provides a set templates to get you started but also gives you the option to customize beyond their templates to make your site stand out as much as you want it to.
  • It can hold a lot of files and photos. I use the site as a personal project portfolio, so I'm used to uploading some large files and so far I've had no problem with loading them onto the site.
  • I did struggle several times with image quality once I uploaded my photos. Sometimes certain things would get a little blurry/fuzzy when the file originally wasn't like that.
  • Like I mentioned before, I have a lot of larger files on my site. Its easy to upload them, but sometimes it takes a while for them to load on the actual site which is a point of frustration when trying to present my portfolio.
  • I wish there was more flexibility with text and images. Some layouts only allow a short line of texts while others allow more to be visible on the site. If there could be a standard among all layouts that would create a lot less back tracking.
  • This isn't relevant to my personal use of Wix.
I selected Wix because it has offerings to users for free but also offers additional elements if [you're] willing to pay. A lot of other website builders require users to pay to utilize any portion of their website which I was turned away from. I like that you are able to test out Wix, see if it's compatible with your needs for a personal website, and then choose to pay to gain additional services if needed.
I think it truly depends on what the user is looking to use the site for. I think Wix works well for a portfolio display/photography but I see it struggling to be used as a personal business site to sell a service or a product.

Using Wix

Overall I am happy with my use of Wix. I know i'm not using it to it's full potential but it is providing me with the right tools for the type of website I need. Like anything, there are some small tweaks that could be made, like I mentioned prior, faster loading with larger files on the website.

  • Uploading your personal information to the Wix database was very streamlined and easy
  • Setting up the different pages within the website is very organized with the Wix toolbar
  • Adding personality to the website through various fonts/colors was easy to do
  • If you have different layouts for different pages on the website, making sure they apply to the pages you want got a little confusing at time. Sometimes I would have two page designs combine on one page instead of separating between the two
Yes - I've only used it through my Ipad, not an iphone or any other phone but the interface over the ipad is great. It doesn't adjust my site at all and looks just as it would over a computer screen. I'm very happy with the mobile interface.
