Overall Satisfaction with Workday Adaptive Planning

We use Workday Adaptive Planning for all of our forecasting and budgeting needs. We no longer have multiple spreadsheets going to FP&A to analyze. We do all of our analysis in the system. In addition, the flexibility of being able to use OfficeConnect for report and financial statements allows us to customize the look and feel for our needs without being restricted by the systems' templates..

Pros

  • Integration with our existing ERP system.
  • Trusting the data. When there is an error, it is almost always human error. When using the system's processes exclusively, there are no errors.
  • Continuously providing updates from the community.

Cons

  • Dashboards are not the best for graphs/charts. However, I have heard of companies using the dashboards for forecasting/budgeting. I would like to see Workday Adaptive Planning demonstrate this part of the feature.
  • Better security or locks to prevent deleting Actuals data - you are literally one click away from doing this.
  • On the web-based reports, better functionality when needing to reverse the sign in calculations - right now it is only available for revenue vs. expenses.
  • Too early in my position to determine. However, in previous jobs, we saved employee time and improved budgeting timing turnaround.
I have not used these tools yet. I don't feel there is enough information for me to trust and depend on these. Heading to a conference in Las Vegas with the hopes of gaining more knowledge and confidence in the features. Our leadership is looking for input and direction on these features.
By using the OfficeConnect feature, we are using our Excel workbooks for analysis and not just entering data. We are able to consolidate, look at a plant by plant analysis, look at Cash Flow - all within one workbook - and TRUST the data. We are continuing to grow users within the organization as there is nothing they can 'mess up' within the system.
Love, love, love, love the OfficeConnect interface as well as the Planning tab within Excel. OfficeConnect is so flexible, gets immediate updated data (after integrations are run). No need to recreate workbooks every month, just refresh the data. This really is the lifeblood for my CFO and leadership team. The Planning tab in Excel allows us to look at a Sheet with many, many rows and perform analysis, even sending it back to Workday Adaptive Planning.
In my opinion, Spreadsheet Server is not even in the same game as Workday Adaptive Planning. While it is flexible in Excel, it still requires a lot of back and forth for analysis.

In a previous company, I was hired based on my experience with Workday Adaptive Planning. After being hired and reviewing the company, I quickly determined they were not large of enough of a company to need the program. Instead, we made better Excel budget templates, utilized OneDrive and created a better experience without the cost. Left the job after 9 months because I worked my way out of the position. My next role I looked for bigger companies and had better success with implementation.
