It does the job
Overall Satisfaction with Workfront
- Centralize projects in one solution
We use the resource grid to share the workload between the engineers in my department. The planification is a key aspect. Some enhancements would be needed to better plan the workload and re-evaluate through time if the plan needs to be adjusted.
Pros
- Time recording to projects. In order to plan and estimate the workload on a typical project, we went back 4 years ago on a similar project and were able to get a precise time estimate per function in order to plan this particular project. The effort needed was then planned according to this in a few hours.
- Personalized reporting. There is a good level of personalization possible for us to create our own reports.
Cons
- Time planification. Once a task is created and planned, it's hard to adjust. For example, if a task was planned for 50 hours and after spending 30 hours we see that another 50 is still required, the resource grid is not dynamic enough to re-plan and see at what date we are now able to complete this task.
- Job satisfaction by a more equal work load balance between employees.
Maintenance by internal resources was taking too much time and the software was limited to one site. We needed to go to several sites across the country, a web based app was required. Workfront was found as the most flexible at the time we took this decision.
To share resources within the region, we have a central point to see the resources availability.
To set up the system we did use training services as well as professional services to guide us on how to set up Workfront for our organization. It was good information.
