Overall Satisfaction with Yardi Voyager

Voyager is used by our Property Management and Accounting departments. We use it for rent payments, state and federal compliance and general accounting.

We evaluated 3 other products and chose Voyager based on a complete package, it being in a SaaS environment and a solid interface to our accounting software.
We've been using it for several years and I hear very little negative feed back from dozens of users across three to four different departments.
After really grasping that Voyager is an accounting package, with a property management wrapper written around it, the work flow makes sense.

Voyager does a good job of keeping us in compliance with various federal and state agencies. It is also strong in rent control, payment processing including checks, direct deposits and credit card transactions.

We have invested 5 years of setup, implementation and training on Voyager. It's doing a very good job for us and I feel we've only scratched the surface of its capabilities. Yardi support has been very responsive with very little down time. The training materials are great from Client Central.

Evaluating Yardi Voyager and Competitors

Yes - We were using Classic which is a product Yardi acquired. It did not have a full accounting package, rental community support, elearning or Client Central support.

We needed a package that would solve more tasks than tracking rent. We needed the full package with an accounting base.
Shorten up the evaluation of some of the products that we knew we were not going to choose.

Yardi Voyager Implementation

If you are converting from another system, grouping your properties by subsidy type seemed to help us. We were able to focus on a half dozen properties at a time, rather than the entire portfolio.
Yes - We converted a few properties at a time. We grouped the properties based on subsidy type.
Change management was minimal
  • Running parallel with both systems became burdensome. Double entries were needed for some time during the conversion.

Voyager is priced based on units. We needed to add additional units that were not going to be used in the convention form. We only needed to add the units for work orders. The units would constantly be changing but the total number of units would not. We worked out additional units purchase at a much reduced rate that worked perfectly for only creating work orders for some Covid units.
