Good for letting your investors, employees and others know at a glance how your company is doing. The interface is clean and organized well. I just wish more of the app's functionality was available for testing and implementation. "Coming soon" is not really encouraging when we already have been waiting for a year or more.

Domo

Domo is great for visualizing any data you have in spreadsheets, salesforce, or a host of other applications all in one chart or card. It's really helpful for seeing progress towards goals and drilling down into the data to understand what is going on at a more granular level as well.

Pros

  • Grouping several apps in one place for easy viewing.
  • Clean dashboard interface that looks uncluttered when viewing several apps at once.
  • Setting up the apps is a breeze when the platform supports them.
  • Centralizing data/insights in a single platform. Domo supports hundreds of connectors for different types of data sources, and once the datasets are in Domo platform, they can be joined and available for slicing and dicing snappily.
  • Self service. Once datasets are in Domo, users having access to that dataset will be able to easily build their own visualization for analysis and monitoring on their own. Users can also connect their own data (e.g. spreadsheets, .csv files) that can then further be joined with the available datasets.
  • Collaboration. The possibility to have discussion *on the data* itself is amazing. Every single dashboard page and chart card has its own chat channel, where people can mention colleagues, attach images & files, both publicly (visible/readable by everyone having access) or privately (only specifically for mentioned users).
  • Alerts, including near real time alerts. Domo allows alerts to be defined by any of the users having access, which can then be shared for others to reuse (subscribe to alert) as well. Domo delivers alerts via SMS, mobile app notification, in-browser notification and email. Powerful for executives who would like to be made aware when certain key metrics changes significantly.
  • Insights on the go. Domo's mobile app is currently unparalleled by others in terms of insight consumption and basic exploration.
  • Beautiful UI & UX.
  • Able to handle large datasets. Our largest datasets are in the range of hundreds of millions records per dataset. In total we have more than 10 billions rows from hundreds of datasets.
  • All in one platform. By pareto 80-20 principle, just by deploying and utilizing Domo well, you will get 80% of your data/insight use cases resolved.

Cons

  • Integration with apps that are listed. Some of them are not supported yet and it seems the wait is taking longer than I'd like.
  • iPhone support. It would be nice to have this in the app store. Not available as of 04/25/2018.
  • Support. Granted, most of our needs simply works without the need of support and issues rarely happens. However when it does happen, the response from their support team is painfully slow and it takes long to get through the layers of support teams when the issues are indeed advanced and can't be solved by their first layer of support.
  • Data Catalog. Self service when ungoverned may result in mess. Domo offers great tools to display and manage datasets, pages, cards; however there is no proper Data Catalog that will allow us list and define datasets, pages, metrics, cards to help business users navigate the plethora of data and information in the platform.
  • Real time / live queries. Currently Domo lives & breathes on datasets concept, whereby the snapshot of the data has to be imported into Domo first as datasets. While some other BI/Analytics tools works for live queries. These live query capabilities are needed for real time use cases as well as exploratory analyses. We're currently happy with "near" real time instead, whereby the datasets in Domo is refreshed every 15 minutes (the fastest frequency Domo currently supports).

Domo is a great up-and-coming product. There are many fantastic features that are extremely compelling to our end users, which makes Domo a great fit for our organization. As with many BI tools, there are items on the wish list that could make implementation, administration and usage easier, but I believe these will be addressed over time as the product matures and evolves. The overall concept and approach of this solution has definitely raised the bar in this area of expertise and I would like to see things advance in giving the enterprise tools that will make decision making easier and more robust in the future.

A business management platform has to be flexible to provide solutions for customers from any business environment, but that flexibility has to be delivered without requiring complex business process re-engineering and massive data conversion efforts. Domo’s web-based architecture and wealth of connectivity options allow rapid setup for any business. If your marketing company is wrestling with channel return on investment or your educational organization is drowning in data, Domo has the tools and capability to use your data and turn it into something useful for you

Support

Support was helpful in the beginning but no longer needed because I didn't use the software as much. The experience that I did have with support was very friendly but not enough to give a good review. If the support team was called for initial setup, video chat or messenger app was used.

It was a breeze. We had it implemented and were using it in production within weeks. Even before the POC was schedule to end.

We have a broad audience on the Salesforce.com platform. This includes Executives (C-Level), Sales Teams (both inside and outside sales), Product and Promotional Marketing, and IT administration. The tool is used mainly by our World WideSales teams, as it is used for viewing metrics and other KPI type information that will assist our team in analyzing business trends that will make the sales opportunity process more streamlined and robust.

Alternatives Considered

I actually chose QuickBooks (currently using) and Method (used for a month) before deciding that 9 Spokes is just good for looking at a few apps in one place. I'll keep checking back with them to see if they have improved. I wouldn't be surprised if 9 Spokes improves their product within the next 6-12 months.
Domo is the only one truly all-in-one platform. For example, at the time of assessment (mid-end 2016), Tableau didn't have alert feature off the shelf, Domo is the only one with powerful mobile apps, no other even come close.Domo not only has alert feature but it's also self-service and supports SMS & mobile app notification. Domo is the only one allowing collaboration with their in-platform chat (Buzz) and seamless sharing. Domo has the most data sources connection supported.Domo's datasets simply works, compared to headache in maintaining Tableau Data Extract for example. Most other products would introduce heavy burden on the databases especially those relying on live queries to work.Domo has the most user-friendly, intuitive and beautiful UI/UX.

Collaboration and Sharing

Access control capabilities are OK. Ease of sharing is great because the app design is made special for that purpose. I haven't dove that far into the app enough to generate reports. Formatting is very flexible because 9 Spokes allows the user to customize how the info is displayed. Security or lack thereof is not a factor for me so I am unable to give feedback on security.

The sharing and collaboration tools of Domo measure up closely to what I would compare to what we do from a SharePoint standpoint. I like how you can share your point of view and get feedback from collaborators on a specific report. I do find it a bit easier than just posting a file and sending an e-mail with a link to a file. I would certainly like to see more real-time collaboration, but I'm sure this will come eventually.

Data Integration

I gave 9 Spokes a five because the range of data sources is minimal. Ease of merging data from disparate sources is pretty good for the ones they do support. I just want to have more apps available for arranging on their nice looking interface. Perhaps next year my review for 9 Spokes will be better than 5

Connecting to various data sources, such as SQL Server, ERPs, Excel spreadsheets, text files, and even Access databases has been good, but isn't quite as intuitive as it can be. The data mapping features could be a bit more streamlined, making it easier to establish these kinds of connections. As a power user, however, these were not stumbling blocks, but I could imagine for the general user that this would be a bit cumbersome.
