Amazon Simple Notification Service (SNS) is well suited for applications built on event driven architecture. It makes it easy to log and track events in real time from the source to the destination. The permissions should be configured properly in order to use SNS else while implementing you can come across Access Denied errors. The dashboards are difficult to maintain to track the utilization.

To be clear, Mailchimp is usually the right solution for businesses when they are starting out. As an email marketing tool, it has all the features necessary to get your email newsletter off the ground, handle reporting and analytics while also staying relatively easy to use. As your needs and your list become more robust though, there are more enterprise options to consider

Mailchimp

  • One of the things that I love about MailChimp is the wide variety of templates that it offers me to apply to each of the campaigns that I am building. MailChimp offers me templates with an excellent design, with very good colors and that allow me to obtain a better organization of the information that each campaign will have.
  • I love the way MailChimp allows me to monitor and evaluate the impact of each campaign we've sent. For us, it is too important to be attentive to the progress of each campaign, since this way we will know the access that customers have had to that campaign. MailChimp allows us to have real-time monitoring and also allows us to view the client's access to the campaign in detail.
  • It has excellent integration with the Facebook and Twitter service, which has helped us a lot, since on some occasions we carry out campaigns for a general public and not for specific clients, and this fantastic integration has allowed us to quickly disseminate those campaigns with all the public that follows our social networks.

  • At times you receive access denied errors which are annoying.
  • Rarely do you receive internal failure errors where you can't access the information. It is rare but it does happen.
  • You are required to add an MWS Authentication Token every so often. I wish it would pull that information automatically for you so you don't have to go searching for it.

  • Their interface takes a little getting used to; not expressly clear at first how icons on left side divide out into sub-functions on right.
  • There is a lot of stuff on their pages that sometimes makes it hard to get to what your after; example: the audience dashboard is mostly black & white with a lot of great information, but your eyes don't immediately drive to where you would go to work with the data.
  • Similar to above, their terms sometimes seem mixed as in "View Contacts" and "Manage Audience" with a sub-menu under that says "Manage Contacts."

Usability is good but the implementation can be a little tricky as its not as intuitive as some other platforms. That being said, part of the reason is because they are more robust and offer more features so it does make it a little bit more technical than some of the other tools to set up. This can be looked as a pro or a con depending on how you look at it but besides that its great.

I have, in the 4+ years that I've used Mailchimp, never seen an issue that restricted the use of their software/tools. I don't know of a single time when they're system crashed or went down. I could be wrong, but I honestly haven't experienced any issues with outages, errors or unplanned downtime

I haven't noticed any slow speeds from Mailchimp or their tools. I think the landing pages load quickly and look nice. The email reports and editing operates smoothly and doesn't take time to load. Additionally, when I use Mailchimp in conjunction with Zapier + Hubspot I don't notice any drag between any of these tools

PagerDuty is used when we are working outside of Amazon Web Services. Though PagerDuty is more expensive than Amazon SNS they do have better reporting capabilities in specific areas.

Mailchimp

Mailchimp is better for email marketing as it has more templates, for flexibility, etc. Cheetah suite and CleverTap have all channels except email too hence they don't have such deep level of features and templates for email. Thus Mailchimp is the tool we preferred for our external email retargeting campaigns

Mailchimp over the years I've used it has grown in leaps and bounds. They have added so many additional features than were previously available. They are truly an all-in-one marketing platform now.If you're a small operation and just want to add email to your marketing efforts, they're there for you. If you're a larger operation and want to start sending postcard advertisements, they can do that. If you'd good with that and want to kick up your marketing by going social, you can do that on their platform. They are truly able to be as small as you need, but also get quite large in whatever it is you'd like to do through their system.
