Overall Satisfaction with Mailchimp
I use Mailchimp as my primary email marketing tool. For small business startups it may not be possible or within the budget to invest in email marketing when they are not confident of the ROI. Three plan of Mailchimp addresses this specific problem where users can start free and pay as and when they grow bigger. Mailchimp let's me integrate a mailing list on my website where I collect email addresses and then send our newsletters to those who would like to follow my business.
Pros
- Mailchimp allows you to manage your mailing list really well. You can subscribe people, unsubscribe people manage the mailing list directly into segments, and what not.
- Mailchimp has features where you can create campaigns based on your mailing lists and send out newsletters to your subscribers based on a multitude of parameters that you can setup. Such as send email daily, weekly, monthly and they also have event based mails that you can send out.
- Mailchimp also has a feature where you can design your emails. The look and aesthetics are very important when sending emails to your subscribers and all those needs are addressed here.
Cons
- I have not faced any issues with Mailchimp recently. But, when I just started out with them the main issue that I had faced was that they simply banned my account thinking that I was a spammer. I could not get in touch with them and there was no way that I could have my business email which I had purchased up and working with them. I am not sure whether this should be categorized as a negative point but nevertheless, I thought I'd mention it.
- Another area where Mailchimp could improve is that they don't have a good plugin for WordPress. We need to rely on third party shady plugins which do a better job and at the end of the day, this is not good practice considering website security.
- Lastly, they are now getting into all sorts of other features such as CRM and what not, they are not keeping things focused and simple. They could improve in this area by making the portal a little more intuitive of the added capabilities of the platform.
- I have personally not cracked the ROI benefits of email marketing using Mailchimp. However, Mailchimp did give me a start to get up and going with email marketing for my business without investing a penny.
- As a Web Developer Mailchimp gave me the tools to setup email marketing on my customer's websites. Specially those customers who are totally new to email marketing. I was paid handsomely for my web development for having integrated such features on my customers' websites.
- Mailchimp has given me the hands on experience of using an email marketing platform totally for free.
Well I have been using Mailchimp since before it was an all in one marketing platform. So I still consider it as a go to for email marketing. At this stage and with my limited knowledge I would never simply rely on a single platform for my marketing since there are other platforms out there such as Hubspot with may offer other features that I would like to add to my portfolio when it comes to marketing.
Try to avoid all spam related mistakes or you domain will get banned and I am sure you cannot change your domain or business name very easily. Do a complete study before implementing Mailchimp and you will have a great start to the world of email marketing tools for your business totally for free.
