If you are using Salesforce then Chatter increases the benefits of Salesforce. It leads to improved communication between team members. It is also useful for understanding the background of customers and business for new employees. Users can also get regular updates on Opportunities or Accounts or Cases they are interested in without logging into Salesforce. As an example, if you are heading Sales in California, you can get updates on opportunities in your region in your inbox at the beginning of your day.

Chatter can fulfill at least 85-90% of our business requirements in an easy-to-use platform. Usability is a key requirement and we have had our share of bad usability experiences. In our experience, even the most novice users were able to pick up Chatter in a relatively short amount of time with little/no assistance.

MS Lync is our preferred tool for IM

Return on Investment

  • In my specific role, Chatter hasn't played a role in what I do at all. I haven't used it in the last 8 months and don't have a reason at this point to use it in the future.
  • The positive role I see it playing is for news updates. I don't have Chatter open in Salesforce at all so I just check the emails that come through.
