It's helpful for top of marketing funnel writing that we can sometimes lose sight of because we are so ingrained in the product day to day. Contently is also helpful for long written pieces and ebooks that will take a significant amount of employee time to put together.I avoid using Contently for mid to bottom funnel marketing writing because my team will often have greater insight into the product function or use-case or product release, making them more adroit to the tone of the written piece and able to produce the content quickly.

Data analytics of number of views on the WordPress website is approximated or not appropriate. Also, links cannot be added to images i.e if we wish to put up an image which upon click should take the user to the required link (link embedding in images is not supported).

Pros

Contently

  • Consolidating my work in one place to make my work life easier
  • Contently is unique from other content marketing organizational tools in one key way. It hands you a network of freelance professionals eager for delegated work.
  • You can search through a database of professionals to find the perfect person for your given project. Find individuals in your budget offering the exact skills and experience you need.

WordPress

  • Worpdress is very SEO-friendly. The built in permalink structure, the organization and structure of post types and pages plus the addition of the 'rhymes with toast' SEO plugin gives you a great SEO foundation.
  • Wordpress is a constantly evolving piece of code. Wordpress does a great job of maintaining the core product. As new features are available, as new security issues become known, the WP team keeps you up to date with the latest and greatest version.
  • The Wordpress community is strong! As a developer, this is just fantastic. If I am having trouble implementing a highly custom piece for a client, chances are someone else has already done it! And if not, I can just ask the community, review the Codex or simply Google it. I've never had to say "No, can't do that" when working in Worpdress.

Cons

Contently

  • I have been using it for 3.5 years, and have had no response from potential clients.
  • The portfolio section is pretty easy to use, but I don't love the format.
  • Since I'm not a client, I don't know just how easy it is for them to find new freelancers or how often it is actually used.
  • Probably more suited for some types/concentrations of freelance writers, like finance, tech, or healthcare.

WordPress

  • To gain additional features, you sometimes need a lot of plug-ins that often slow the website down.
  • To obtain a higher, more optimized SEO presence, you sometimes need a stronger technology or more pesky plug-ins.
  • Because WordPress is commonly use and popularity, it is an ideal target for hackers.

My rating is based on the knowledge I have of the community that WordPress has had built around it for years now. It's as solid as it comes when you talk about community involvement and expansion. There's no other CMS out there that can match-up with it, hands down.

It's a sophisticated but easy to use piece of software. Many of the content addition pieces are familiar from other pieces of software so there isn't a huge learning curve. And for new areas, there is a lot of info on WordPress.org as well as other WordPress help sites.

Anyone can visit WordPress.org and download a fully functional copy of WordPress free of charge. Additionally, WordPress is offered to users as open-source software, which means that anyone can customize the code to create new applications and make these available to other WordPress users.

Mostly, any performance issues have to do with using too many plugins and these can sometimes slow down the overall performance of your site. It is very tempting to start adding lots of plugins to your WordPress site, however, as there are thousands of great plugins to choose from and so many of them help you do amazing things on your site.If you begin to notice performance issues with your WordPress site (e.g. pages being slow to load), there are ways to optimize the performance of your site, but this requires learning the process. WordPress users can learn how to optimize their WordPress sites by downloading the WPTrainMe WordPress training plugin (WPTrainMe.com) and going through the detailed step-by-step WordPress optimization tutorials.

I'm giving them a 10, but honestly, I've never reached out to them. I do see them putting out regular content on social media, so they might be responsive to questions there as well as regular customer support. In their posts and communication, they do seem to value their community, so hopefully, they have good customer support. And I've seen them asking for pitches from their community to publish well-paid articles during this stressful coronavirus time, and I really appreciate that.

I have fortunately not had to receive support from WordPress. However, when I have contacted Support, they were quick to respond and efficient at providing an answer within one correspondence. There was no need for additional follow-up. The WordPress representative was very friendly, professional, and I felt they were quite knowledgeable about the platform.

As someone who learned how to install and configure WordPress and then began performing the service professionally for other local businesses, and finally ended up teaching and training business owners about the benefits of using WordPress and developing WordPress training products, I am constantly amazed when I hear from business owners that their sites have taken weeks or even months to get built and how much they have paid for it. Getting a professional WordPress site built and fully configured requires only hours or a couple of days. If you learn how to do it yourself, the only cost you have is registering a domain name and getting a web hosting account, which is a requirement for any website. Additionally, WordPress website owners can be up and running and growing their presence online even before deciding on a specific web design "look" for their sites. You can start with any web template and change your theme as soon as you find the design you like, and everything that you have added to your site will remain the same.I have grown to love WordPress, as have thousands of other WordPress users, and I have always taught in my business seminars and workshops that, unless what you plan to do online requires some specific custom-built complex application, then consider using WordPress. WordPress is the ideal platform of choice to consider for most business website needs - it can save you thousands of dollars on web development costs and it puts you in the driver's seat of your own online vehicle!

Contently's sweet spot is their network of writers. I have tried a few other platforms but saw much lower writing quality. The tool is handy, especially if you produce multiple pieces of content every week

WordPress

The two other open source tools, Joomla! and Drupal, were at one time comparable to WordPress but have since been left behind as WP has more developers working on it. Wix, Weebly, and Squarespace are all great platforms for small companies who don't want to spend any attention on their website... but they are much more limited in extendability than WordPress is.

WordPress is completely scalable. You can get started immediately with a very simple "out-of-the box" WordPress installation and then add whatever functionality you need as and when you need it, and continue expanding. Often we will create various WordPress sites on the same domain to handle different aspects of our strategy (e.g. one site for the sales pages, product information and/or a marketing blog, another for delivering products securely through a private membership site, and another for running an affiliate program or other application), and then ties all of these sites together using a common theme and links on each of the site's menus.Additionally, WordPress offers a multisite function that allows organizations and institutions to manage networks of sites managed by separate individual site owners, but centrally administered by the parent organization. You can also expand WordPress into a social networking or community site, forums, etc.The same scalability applies to web design. You can start with a simple design and then scale things up to display sites with amazing visual features, including animations and video effects, sliding images and animated product image galleries, elements that appear and fade from visitor browsers, etc.The scaling possibilities of WordPress are truly endless.

  • Because the WordPress platform is free and hosting is not expensive, WordPress usage can positively impact maintenance cost of running a small ecommerce website or a medium-sized blog.
  • Many software companies release free WordPress modules, making it easy to assemble a site with basic functionality quickly.
