ManageEngine Password Manager Pro
Chose ManageEngine Password Manager Pro
I have used Dashlane in the past at a previous organization and as great and well designed as it is, it is not great for large companies that are looking for a more commercial and more supported solution. One thing I do like about Dashlane though is how it easily integrates …
Chose ManageEngine Password Manager Pro
We selected Password Manager Pro because of active directory integration, compared to those PC tools. We wanted to have a central password tool accessible by a simple browser rather than having to install a heavy client on each admin PC or access to a database through a Windows …

Dashlane
It is well suited in org where password protection is mandatory. Most companies need it hence as the service you're providing needs to have a secure vault and this is where dashlane comes in picture. Also great as a authenticator app. Even has VPN for those that need. It is less suited for personal projects.

It's great for any company that relies on active-directory as their primary source of user password authentication and other data. It's ability to integrate with a host of other tools such as Google Workspace, Azure AD (if you aren't using ADFS/DirSync/etc.), FreshService, Trello, etc. as well local apps like Postgres, i/AS400, and more make it a great middleware tool for SS.

Pros
Dashlane
  • Their Secure Notes are an easy and great way to save and protect important data and notes not specifically password-related.
  • I really like their Payments feature. I've used that at my desk and when traveling to fill-in payment information on the fly.
  • I've recently begun using Dashlane with PassKeys and found the process to be simple and intuitive to use.

  • PMP is great for sorting passwords into different groups depending on the category of application access. This makes it easy to find the password that you are looking for.
  • Application credentials can easily be saved to the clipboard to make it easier to copy and paste them into the appropriate log in screen.
  • Different types of credentials for the same application can be stored next to each other and are easy to distinguish by the icon next to the name. For example, SSH credentials, web credentials, and local root credentials are all easy to sort under one application group.

Cons
Dashlane
  • Some of our language and explanations could be simpler. Most users are not security professionals, they just want to get into applications and do their jobs.
  • Guidelines for diagnosing and fixing problems can always be clearer and better targeted toward laypeople.
  • Sometimes we need to change a user's email address (like if they change their name). Changing email addresses is very hard if not impossible. It appears to be impossible once it's set in the account.

  • There is no flexibility in how accounts are grouped.
  • The implementation of lowest privilege means you cannot use groups for assigning role based security. If you give a team read access, and a limited subset of the team write access, the read access supersedes write.
  • Some versions have been fragile. There have been times where the server has stopped working and needed a restart daily/weekly. Read the issues resolved in updates. There have been some critical failures in security over the years (i.e. unauthorized access possible by URL manipulation).

It has served us very well until now and at the pricepoint it doesn't make us second guess our current relationship.

Usability
Dashlane
We previously used LastPass, which was also an excellent alternative for Dashlane. Dashlane seems to have more security features compare to LastPass. We can send pass to any user in our organization easily also we can share details with our clients. we can securely manage all the pass in our vault and timely change it when it's time comes.

Support Rating
Dashlane
We've had no issues with Dashlane. I can't speak to their customer service because I have not personally needed to contact them. I guess that speaks about their product if we've not had any issues to reach out about. Great for supporting data/information on multiple platforms that are shared among team members.

Alternatives Considered
Dashlane
Dashlane loses against 1Password in almost every way. The only aspect that is better for Dashlane is the ability to share with your organization as it will pre-populate a list of users.
I didn't select Dashlane, it was selected for me. If it was up to me, I would choose 1Password over Dashlane all the time.

We evaluated one on-premise solution, Password Manager Pro, one cloud-based solution called Passwordstate to store all sensitive password information and also secure notes. The latter was licensed by users, so we knew as the team grew it would cost quite a lot more to maintain. We wanted access for various users within the information technology and systems department at a granular level to have separation of the various passwords into categories which we then give permission relevant for the right users.

  • Productivity has never been a concern since we have used products like Dashlane in the past, but the security features provide great peace of mind.
  • Far less time has been spent on credential management
