Db2 vs. Guru

I have primarily used it as the basis for a SIS - but I have migrated more than a few systems from there database systems to DB2 (Filemaker, MySQL, etc.). DB2 does have a better structural approach, as opposed to Filemaker, which allows for more data consistency, but this can also lead to an inflexibility that can sometimes be counterintuitive when attempting to compensate for the flexibility of the work environment as Schools tend to have an all in one approach.

I think Guru is well-suited to organizations with subject matter experts committed to maintaining documentation. Guru cannot be managed by a single admin. It's essential that the SMEs are on board and are expected to participate in Guru as part of their role responsibilities. I'm not sure how well Guru would work for larger organizations with more information to house. I've only ever used Guru in SMBs with about 250 employees. It works well for that size.

• While we query a large set of data, the results are generally available within a minute or so.
• Always reliable - I have never experienced an application going down.

• Easy to learn. Anyone can make cards and use the AI to make them professional.
• Answer questions about my business, essentially a wiki for everything we do.
• The research mode is amazing. Full reports on various types of information including some rather complex topics. Complete with citations of where the information came from.
• Admins can manage a hierarchy to keep information secure and available to the correct people.

• Learning curve for DB resources - Improvements to UI or native command line built-ins can help with increasing efficiencies for DB resources

The DB2 database is a solid option for our school. We have been on this journey now for 3-4 years so we are still adapting to what it can do. We will renew our use of DB2 because we don’t see. Major need to change. Also, changing a main database in a school environment is a major project, so we’ll avoid that if possible.

I rated Guru a 9 out of 10 for renewal likelihood because it has significantly enhanced our processes and customer satisfaction in the automotive rental company. Guru’s user-friendly interface and organized knowledge base make it easy to access and update essential information, which is crucial for maintaining high operational standards. The tool’s integration with other platforms, like the Guru Chrome extension, streamlines our workflow, increasing efficiency and productivity. One of the standout features is the ability to favorite cards, allowing quick access to frequently used information, which saves time and ensures accuracy in customer interactions. Additionally, Guru’s analytics feature helps us identify which resources need updating, ensuring our knowledge base remains relevant and effective. The only reason it’s not a perfect 10 is occasional slow performance and occasional inaccuracies in search results. However, these minor issues do not overshadow the overall benefits Guru provides. While using the GURU card, the level of response I get is quality. The rate at which my responses and prompts through the search or chat is fast, responsive, and high-quality. I can easily see when the cards were modified, who modified them, and the new information available on the GURU.

I have never had DB2 go down unexpectedly. It just works solidly every day. When I look at the logs, sometimes DB2 has figured out there was a need to build an index. Instead of waiting for me to do it, the database automatically created the index for me. At my current company, we have had zero issues for the past 8 years. We have upgrade the server 3 times and upgraded the OS each time and the only thing we saw was that DB2 got better and faster. It is simply amazing.

Highly reliable day‑to‑dayGuru is consistently available when I need it. The platform loads quickly, search works reliably, and I rarely experience downtime or slow performance. It’s dependable enough that teams can trust it as a daily source of truth. Minimal unplanned outages or errors. In my experience, unplanned outages or errors are extremely rare. Even during high‑usage periods or heavy workflows, Guru remains stable and responsive.

The performances are exceptional if you take care to maintain the database. It is a very powerful tool and at the same time very easy to use. In our installation, we expect a DB machine on the mainframe with access to the database through ODBC connectors directly from branch servers, with fabulous end users experience.

Pages load quickly and consistently. Guru’s interface is lightweight, so cards, boards, and search results load fast with very little lag. Even when navigating between collections or opening larger cards, performance stays smooth and reliable. Integrations perform well without slowing systems down. Using Guru through the browser extension or Slack integration doesn’t noticeably impact performance. Cards surface quickly, and interacting with the integrations feels just as smooth as using Guru directly.

The support has been wonderful - probably one of the best things about Guru. We have a Slack channel where we can reach out and interact with our Guru CSM, and she is extremely responsive. Even if the solution isn't always easy, she provides all the necessary steps and options clearly.

I would rate the in-person training for Guru a solid 9 out of 10. The session was incredibly valuable as it provided comprehensive insights into using Guru effectively. I learned a lot about the tool's functionalities, which significantly enhanced my proficiency and confidence in utilizing Guru for my daily tasks. The online, on-demand training available was very good. I do wish we had done live online training as an org so that everyone had the same opportunity to learn the value and best practices. I completed the online, on-demand trainings personally, then turned around and taught the org, but I wish I had let the Guru experts do the heavy lifting for me!

db2 work well with the application, also the replication tool can keep it up

You will need a very strong team of guru champions in order to get EVERYONE and EVERYTHING on Guru, it takes some craziness and over talking about guru everywhere to get people to be exicted, contribute and use. If you are starting any kind of buisness and you need KB, just go for guru as fast as you can because when you will grow you will thank yourself.

DB2 was more scalable and easily configurable than other products we evaluated and short listed in terms of functionality and pricing. IBM also had a good demo on premise and provided us a sandbox experience to test out and play with the product and DB2 at that time came out better than other similar products.

Compared with the vendors that we initially evaluate the AI functionality of, Guru makes the difference and also the interface capabilities, making it user-friendly, being able to build it up in a professionally way. there are no limitations on the customization of the interface, which supports multiple use cases at once and can apply to different teams that have different needs

Guru is somewhat expensive compared to what our org is typically willing to spend on software solutions. Additionally, there is a price difference per seat when paid monthly versus annually, which was a big downside for us as my company didn't want to commit to an annual cost.

By
using DB2 only to support my IzPCA activities, my knowledge here
is somewhat limited.

Anyway,
from what I was able to understand, DB2 is extremely scallable.

Maybe the information below could serve as an example of scalability.

Customer have an huge mainframe environment, 13x z15 CECs, around
80 LPARs, and maybe more than 50 Sysplexes (I am not totally sure about this
last figure...)

Today
we have 7 IzPCA
databases, each one in a distinct Syplex.

Plans
are underway to have, at the end, an small LPAR, with only one DB2 sub-system,
and with only one database, then transmit the data from a lot of other LPARs,
and then process all the data in this only one database.

The
IzPCA collect process (read the data received, manipulate it, and insert rows
in the tables) today is a huge process, demanding many elapsed
hours, and lots of CPU.

Almost
100% of the tables are PBR type, insert jobs run in parallel, but in 4 of the 7
database, it is a really a huge and long process.

Combining
the INSERTs loads from the 7 databases in only one will be impossible.......,,,,

But,
IzPCA recently introduced a new feature, called "Continuous
Collector".

By
using that feature, small amounts of data will be transmited to the central
LPAR at every 5 minutes (or even less), processed immediately,in
a short period of time, and with small use of CPU,
instead of one or two transmissions by day, of very large amounts of data and
the corresponding collect jobs occurring only once or twice a day, with long
elapsed times, and huge comsumption of CPU

I
suspect the total CPU seconds consumed will be more or less the same in
both cases, but in the new method it will occur in small bursts
many times a day!!

• Guru allows our team to quickly reference available learning/knowledge materials with our clients on a daily basis and provide better support at every outreach
• With that said, spreading those same resources across two major global teams in the USA and Germany can lead to some inconsistencies. The i-frame process is not very intuitive for this scenario and our team treats policy/procedural differences as separate card or article entities.
• Guru allowed our organization to pioneer and establish a dedicated knowledge team component, of subject matter experts who work in tangent with existing resources, create new ones, and vet collective knowledge.
