Ridder iQ vs. SAP Business ByDesign

The best in the complete production process. It provides the correct info in a very usable way. It is pretty good in sales, but the lack of discounts for sales goods and sales production is not ideal. On the other hand, ECI provides an excellent service for looking for custom solutions where we need them.

• With SAP Business ByDesign you can integrate other systems with Web Services, and data technology to get information easy and fast.
• SAP Business ByDesign includes an Analytics Module to create new reports in regards to your needs.

• The production planning does not use the business calendar for buffer days between end date production and delivery date.
• If the buffer days are on closed dates (weekend and/or Holidays) you have no buffer days at al which is mandatory for Just In Time delivery.
• The production calendar progress is based on an employee (project hours) and not on the actual WIP.
• WIP is a combined booking from machine/operator but is not deducted from in the planning budget if not linked tot project hours.
• There is still no API (the SDK is only available for windows applications).
• Industry 4.0 requires open standard communications for integrated use like a MES/SCADA system.
• The SDK still does not implement anything other than a username/password.
• Ridder iQ implements SSO for the client but the SDK does not offer a passwordless login for users in an external program. When using SSO users forget their password and are unable to change their password since the current password js mandatory for changing it.
• Receiving items larger than the default trade size removes all reservations from the purchase order. The system has once a gain a required need for purchasing material due to this behaviour.
• This is by intent of ECI, they think if a product which is made out of a 1x1 meter plate cannot be created out of a plate 2x2, many other steel company face this issue but they don't want to change this behaviour.
• The SDK does not offer any way of custom views outside the clients acces, this leads to many API calls which is bad for the overal performance.
• All custom views require to be created by a consultant and be out within your license.
• There is no Forecast feature where time/material is resevered and/or creates a details BOM. We need to give forecasts to our suppliers in order to not run out of raw materials and get a better price.
• Ideas.aha.io must be used by users for requesting new features or changes.
• If you look at the top 10 request only 1 request is planned and all others are "Future consideration" or "Chances of being made".
• This means the actual users are nog being heard and they continue their own vision instead of actually listening to their users.

• Time off request could be better. Right now, there is no option for sick time
• It crashes often
• Customization could be better

Its nice software but it is very, very slow in webification and integration possibilities by using api's. Untill now the programm has client-server technology unfortunately. And there are far too less no code adjustments possible.

SAP BYD work centers are consistent and easy to navigate once you understand one work center. The document flow tab that is in each window allows one to see all related transactions. Document flow is important because one is able to see the flow of transactions and can therefore reverse transactions by following the document flow in reverse. It is possible to group items in each overview screen to see what items are open. The system is working as hoped.

Ridder iQ is friendly to use. With the use of roles we can give a very good user experience to our employees; they are more in control of their tasks. Since we use Ridder iQ, the right information is available for everybody in our organization, all on demand.

Because SAP Business ByDesign allows us to improve our work, reduce the operational steps, implement audit controls, allows us found standard reports or it allows us to create new ones if you need more than the exists are enough for your work or your needs. Overall, SAP Business ByDesign allows us to standardize our operations, enhance our work, improve our skills, work over a web environment or mobile interface.

Expert level of the support engineers is adequate. However in our opinion it does take a fair amount of time to respond

The Business ByDesign support is stablished since you contract the service with SAP. SAP resolves according to the service level agreement. Currently, we continue with the service and we are using the support channels available. We are receiving the support. The SAP support gets an incident and after that, they contact us to resolve the incident, if necessary, they set the meeting to understand it or we explain the incident

I recommend implementing all workshops during the ERP selection that you need to know very well about the ERP software. It allows us to gather information to accurate the plan of the project implementation. Additionally, we must reach the high-level commitment to achieve the main goals, to define the RACI matrix and communicate to all project stakeholders.

Ridder iQ is specialized for our business and has people who bring a lot of knowledge to the table, so Ridder iQ is far more suited than a ERP solution which is not specilized in the make-industry. Furthermore, the customizability of Ridder stands out compared to solutions like ISAH. Therefore, the choice was an easy one, because knowledge and customizability are important criteria.

ByDesign stacks up well against the competition. Companies that do multiple things are usually the best fit (manufacturing, distribution, and service). The more 'modules' used, the fewer competitors will be able to meet the company's needs. It is not inexpensive, but if the needs of the company have the complexity from either a global perspective and need localizations and foreign currency, or a volume perspective and need resources greater than what can be easily housed on-premise, ByDesign should be a top consideration.

• Because iQ is widely used, we are more dependent on our network environment. This makes us vulnerable. This is more expensive
• Because we write better quotations with multiple sales rules, we can charge better prices with better margins.

• Positive - Access to the real-time reporting allowing for faster decision making especially when fixed price projects are heading into an over budget position.
• Positive - Complex KPI can now be tracked and as a consequence intensive plans can be made to capitalise on this level of reporting. Staff also have clear visibility over their own performance.
• Negative - We are a bit on the small side at 30 employees for a ByD solution so it was relatively expensive for us. It would be a much better value preposition above 50 employees.
