Chose SAP Crystal
We've had SAP Crystal for about ten years at this point. We've never really evaluated any alternatives since, as of today, well over 400 reports are being generated in the system, and we've yet to consider switching to a competing product.

For automating documents and reports, I personally believe there is no better solution. However, for the sheer fact, it can't compare/combine two sources, I'd recommend pairing it with another BI tool. For example, Qlik, whereby you can create dashboards and compare multiple …

We develop our desktop applications in Visual studio IDE, we use SQL Server as a database engine, and the reports are managed by SAP Crystal since it does not limit us when it comes to displaying data. It supports all kinds of information from images and graphics.

Crystal offered a more straightforward implementation for our situation. While Tableau offers well-designed reports, the overall functionality regarding data manipulation and analysis is behind Crystal.

Chose SAP Crystal
Our requirements were static in nature and we had a bias for SAP due to the availability of skilled in-house resources.
Chose SAP Crystal
I tried using Cognos, but I found trhat I prefered Crystal Reports because it does not require you to set up a meta data layer before setting up your reports. That is a real time saver for me.
Chose SAP Crystal
Crystal reports is useful in case we want to import data from data base . We can write queries in it but google charts require to be implemented in our application using code so crystal reports is better than google charts.

Chose Sisense for Cloud Data Teams
Periscope is by far the best we looked at - I was evaluating as a user, not the primary decision maker, and user interface and ease of use was the primary factor in my decision. It is very easy to navigate and manipulate, and has an overall very polished view.
Chose Sisense for Cloud Data Teams
Periscope's lightweight footprint and customizable SQL-based reports make it a better choice for us than Tableau or Microsoft BI. We deal with millions of rows of transactional data in a SQL Server data warehouse, so having seamless front-end integration makes reporting seamless.

Chose Sisense for Cloud Data Teams
This is currently our primary visualization tool. There is no real option to do any meaningful math on your data, and you only have access to a very, very limited subset of information you stream into the cache. Periscope far exceeds this tool with the ability to combine data …

Different in the sense that you need to be able to manipulate data with Periscope while you just need to understand how data is manipulated with Amplitude (Periscope = you need to master SQL vs Amplitude = you need to understand the logic of SQL). Periscope is a more powerful …
Chose Sisense for Cloud Data Teams
Periscope Data enables data wrangling and is more familiar to SQL-savvy people - which are mostly analysts. Writing query is not really tedious for them, so it is not a huge problem. Quick and nice response from Periscope support is really helpful for the users.
Chose Sisense for Cloud Data Teams
I have not utilized any other tools like Periscope so it's hard to say how it stacks up against its competition.

Generation of templated reports is the strong suit of SAP Crystal. Allows users to change formats in templates bases on requirement with minimal effort. Automated report delivery requires the user to be aware of sql which cannot be expected from all users. Should support more document export formats and improve the UI for SAP B1 Users

  • Great visualization for static format & precise tasks: For presentation to senior management /ex-co/vendors where concise decisions need to be made, Crystal is a nice choice to slide data into presentable views.
  • Diverse data source connect: We have used it to write reports using data from DB2, SQL, Progress, Excel spreadsheets, XML data, Access, and Lotus Notes databases. It can also be used to join different database types together in one report.
  • It uses the "recurring bands" structure for page layout which is efficient and fungible for generating different types of reports. Crystal doesn't require that we set up a metadata layer before creating reports and provides direct access to tables and dimensions.

  • Rapid deployment of polished T-SQL-based data visualization charts and dashboards. Periscope supports a variety of database technologies, and allows users to write custom queries to display data.
  • Included caching to reduce server load.
  • Outstanding customer service/support, with expert advice as needed.
  • Constant updates and new features.
  • Built-in SQL formatters take the pain out of manipulating date/time objects.

Cons
No answers on this topic
  • Crystal Reports charting engine is ok but compared to some other visualization products available it is behind the times.
  • Crystal Reports uses a proprietary format for its data storage, using an open format (like XML) would be much better
  • You cannot add add a structured table object to the page layout, you can only use lines and boxes

  • Some of the dashboards can be slow to load; especially when they have lots of features and widgets.
  • The software could be made a little easier for people that don't have a data or programming background.
  • It is pricey so not a great option for small companies or research/home projects.

We have been using this product for so many years and it has truly become a cornerstone to our business processes when it comes to developing and distributing information via reports. We currently have over 500 reports developed to date over about 30 systems and that will continue to grow as user needs change.

Being able to get up and running quickly is a key asset. There's plenty of advanced features to master that are surprisingly difficult in others tools (or just missing from other tools altogether). The UI can feel a bit dated at times but its usability isn't affected. Any issue you have can usually be resolved by searching in the user community

If you know SQL or are somewhat data-savvy, you'll feel right at home with Sisense for Cloud Data Teams. However, like most other BI tools, it is a little challenging to use for users that are non-technical. The graphs and charts are very visually appealing, and there's lots of customization and export options.

Test, test, test, revise when needed, and, particularly, do sufficient training so users are comfortable using Crystal Reports!

Periscope is far more robust than these two similar products. For a start up just getting going they are fine alternatives, but as your business scales Google Charts becomes a hassle to manage and Keap becomes too much of a generalized product.
