Additional DetailsThere are 2 ways to consume GlobalMeet Webcast. (1) As a fully managed event- which means the GlobalMeet professional services team helps setup the webcast portal, run the rehearsal and is the production manager during the live event. (Picture a TV news producer- taking people on and off camera, launching pre-recorded videos, advancing presentation slides, troubleshooting technical issues that arise, etc.) Typical price for a managed event is between $ 4K and $10K – price dependent on the Attendee Capacity (500 – 100K) and then any “extras” needed such as captions, transcriptions, translations, on-site production A/V for hybrid events, etc. (2) As a license (paid monthly or annually) that can be used to hold as many webcast events as desired. The license is ‘self-service’ but if there are particular events where professional services are required, the user can add the managed component to a single event,w hich GlobalMeet states is fairly common among license customers. Licenses can be used all year for marketing events, webinars, monthly meetings, etc and managed services can be added for the big annual meeting, CEO Town Hall or other high profile event. Typical license costs between $ 30K - $90K / year (cost dependent on the max # of attendees needed for meetings- 1K, 5K, 50K etc and the feature set.)——

For me it was Zoom, Google Meet vs. Whereby. For me, the main idea was to make it easier for the clients (non-technical people) to join and starting to have a talk. For Zoom, it was too much, even for myself, and Google Meet always needs a calendar integration, but with Whereby …

Their team was very hands-on and helpful in the set-up and execution of our meeting. I would recommend them, especially for first-time virtual meeting planners. They were thorough and thoughtful in the planning process, which made the execution smoother.

Well suited for both our workplace and virtual meetings, especially when people are not in one place. It is also more appropriate with audio, visual, and captions. It is also more appropriate to send a recording to your drive for reference on parts that a host may not have captured.

If you cannot use another more common solution on the market or are looking for an alternative to the known solutions, it is a great alternative. If you have other tools already, and just want to test [them], that's fine, but I think the better-known ones have a better chance of using, knowing, and the learning curve will be shorter.

    Pros
    GlobalMeet
    • It's very helpful to have a point of contact to manage communication and the event. We've worked with a few event managers over the years and they have all been great.
    • We've also had great experience during the production (e.g., pre-recording sessions for simlive events). All the production team members we've worked with have been professional and efficient.
    • Our main account contact has been an absolute pleasure to work with. He is detail oriented and responsive. And we particularly appreciate his thoughtful follow-ups after the events to confirm everything met our expectations.

    • It allows multiple people to join in a meeting.
    • The admin can change the role and make anyone as admin of the current session.
    • Even if the meeting gets disconnected due to network in the admin's side error still it remains running on the user's side.
    • Multiple people can share screen together at the same time.
    • The admin can make the meeting open to all so that every time someone joins the admin does not have to allow them one by one. Once it's open, all can join without permission of the admin.

    • Easy to use: The app is very, very easy to use. Literally just create a chat room (input a name) and access it to chat.
    • Call/video quality: I've experienced better call quality on appear.in than in almost all other chat and video conferencing services out there.

    Cons
    GlobalMeet
    • Although I love the polling feature, there are a few kinks that could be worked out, as the dialogue box at times interferes with the presentation.
    • Have the "guest" and "host" bubbles bigger when logging in, sometimes guests get confused and log in as a host accidentally thinking they need a password to join.
    • A kink I've noticed lately, is not being able to upload presentations forcing me to use screenshare. I'm not sure if it's a naming convention or why this error occurs.
    • I have limited use in the webcam feature as when using it in the past there was a serious lag time making it difficult to communicate, but, it could've been my internet speed as well... I'll have to give it another shot.

    • One major one — I always say that we cannot send attachments during the meeting. Teams has that, so I believe Google should add that as well. Because you can have the conversation in the messages, but you can’t provide a file. So let’s say I have a technical conversation with someone, and I want to share a document, like an architecture diagram — I cannot send it. We have to use Gmail or Drive for that. It can be integrated for sure, so that’s an improvement that definitely can be done.

    • The paid version may have dial-in. But I have always used the free version. Dial-in is typically required for an "official" multi-purpose teleconference platform.
    • I did have some trouble with larger groups (5+) when it was Appear.in but almost always use it for small 1-on-1 or 3 person meetings.

This app is still having a lot of redundant features as compared to other industry apps such as Zoom and Webex which offers much more on the functionality side along with the option to have greater user access control to the admin/host of the meetings. A sense of interaction is always found to be missing in Google meet which can be easily adopted in the Zoom

We are using a larger tool suite that already includes video conferencing instead of our older approach of using different apps from different vendors. appear.in has a simple but great set of features but its pricing scheme is not as scalable as we really need in a 500+ employee company.

Generally, I find it relatively easy to use, but I'm a techie, so I understand that a certain amount of training is required for most other business users. The counterpoint here is, of course, that GM provides excellent knowledge articles and training material. The barrier of entry is a bit high due to customer hesitation to "just try it". Training is necessary, but well done and available. Knowledge is a Self-Service after all.

Google does a great job of providing tech support for this product, as it does many others. Similarly, Google has FAQs that cover a large amount of issues faced by users. Problems have not persisted in our use of this product. Problems are resolved quickly and easily, with or without personal Google support.

Never had to contact support, so we cannot give a rating for their overall support. When we noticed the audio was not always great quality, we simply educated our users to mute the mic and use the in-room conference phone which is connected via a dedicated VOIP link and had much better voice quality. The video performance varied by locations network speed and found it got much worse when the room size increased to over 4 connections.

I use Microsoft Teams, but obviously Google Meet is much better than that because there are some challenges which I see as part of this. One of the main pros that I see here is that in Google Meet, whenever you have all those recordings as part of the Google Suite, you have those recordings stored in Google types. So that's the same Google product and everything stays in the same thing.

So I think it's really good that it can help you bring remote people together and feel like you've met with them online. And then when you meet them in person you're like, this tracks, this definitely coincides with who I saw online. So it definitely is a really good platform to just bring people together, but remotely.
