I think if you are a small business, with anywhere from 0-50 employees, Gusto is a good choice. If you start getting bigger than that, it might not be the right tool. To me, it feels best suited for that range of employees. It isn't that it couldn't work with more, I just don't know that I feel like that is who it was made for.

For clients looking for a communications portal this is a perfect fit. However, for clients looking to do online enrollment it is still lacking key features that other systems like Employee Navigator offers.

  • The punch clock is no-nonsense, very simple, and has all of the relevant information displayed in an easy-to-read layout that doesn't overwhelm the viewer.
  • Overall, the user interface for every page is extremely intuitive. I have had no issues finding or making changes to any information I'd need to access.

  • Have an "auto breaks" option to make it easier to add break times (e.g., "30-minute lunch break") to the schedule when inputting hours.
  • Ability to revise pre-existed time off requests (of course, would still need updated approval) instead of having to delete the request/start over entirely (e.g., if the time off request extends from 1 to 2 hours).

  • The onboarding of employees with benefits selection is not quite complete as it pertains to full integrations with carrier feeds and EDI solutions for HIPAA 834 Transactions
  • The ultimate solution would be to integrate with payroll systems such as ADP, PayChex or Paylocity. This would eliminate the need to input and update data in multiple systems
  • Integration to HR systems like Oracle or other HR platforms would be a bonus

Unless they break it, I'm never leaving. It's just too easy. Gusto is also really affordable, and for what I pay, it's worth having the historical record within the system. I like that I can go back and pull up W2's for year's past. This sort of easy access reporting, has been helpful especially when getting reports for PPP loans.

User adoption is low within the client base that we have implemented this at and unless it can offer full EDI capabilities we will not be able to move away from Employee Navigator or Plan Source solutions

I gave Gusto this rating because overall, it is an excellent, versatile program that allows for optimal success and encourages productivity as a whole. In terms of tracking pay and monitoring a person's spending habits (consumer insights), it is spot on for that. However, one feature that it lacks and needs to improve is the benefits package, which is not really good for me. It provides me with next to nothing in terms of benefits. The only benefit it gives me is prescriptions, which is pretty much it. I enjoy the ability to clock time in and out while working remotely. I also like the organization feature of seeing all the coworkers working in your company, which is great because it allows for me to get to know everyone's name.

Gusto's customer service has really deteriorated lately and they seem to have really changed their focus. It used to be when you called you were routed to an individual who knew about payroll, benefits, reporting, etc. but now you get someone who seems to have not received the correct training. My last call about a dismissal payroll took me over an hour of my time and the person still could not help me and finally transferred me to someone else.

Gusto has a glitch-free on-boarding process that surpasses all of the other systems that I have ever tried and used. Rippling is the only other platform that comes close to the Gusto online experience, but Rippling has its PEO/behind-the-scenes legacy system glitches, and it's not nearly as user friendly as Gusto. Gusto's reports are THE best compared with all the other platforms that I have tried.

We actually use HRconnection with a select few clients and use Employee Navigator, Plan Source, and ThinkHR because our clients or the carriers offered them to us as an online enrollment or training options

  • After a recent glitch with the payroll processing system, employees were forced to accept paper checks for a few weeks while Gusto's technical support team figured out the problem. This led to some employees being forced to miss work and lose money while having to deal with an antiquated paper check process.
