Ivanti ITAM suite is very robust and offers all the features you need in an ITAM solution. Out of the box, you get all you need, but you are able to customize and add processes that are missing very easily. It will work for any organization, regardless of complexity. We have the full suite of Ivanti products and there are nice integration options that make usage very seamless.

Lansweeper
Lansweeper I believe is well suited for any environment - its low cost and small footprint make it an easy addition to any organization, big or small, that is looking for an asset inventory solution that can either replace or supplement existing asset management systems. It may not be well suited for situations where a lot of customization is necessary, such as pulling in custom fields or details from equipment that don't reside in a registry.

For companies with more than 10 Windows devices and needing to standardize the OS, AV, access, share resources, and install software. SCCM is the way to go. This software is unnecessary if the business is all remote users and not in an office-type setting. There are cloud offerings or none to accomplish what a business needs.

Lansweeper
  • Inventory - LANSweeper scans the network for devices - anything with an SNMP trap or using AD or local credentials. We can get an in-depth look at devices.
  • Reporting - LANSweeper can generate just about any report you can imagine. We can check RAM in groups and determine where upgrades are needed. We can find local printers (which aren't allowed on our network) and address that issue with the user. We can check CPU type to help determine end of life without our network.
  • Printers - It's nice to have a quick look at printer statuses. Toner levels, out of paper, and service errors are all reported via LANSweeper.

  • Allows the grouping of devices by user.
  • Allows controlling updates being deployed to user devices.
  • Allows for the repurposing of machines by being able to load new or updated software on machines that already are in the system.
  • Allows us the ability to wipe a machine clean and restore it back to the configuration that was assigned the machine.

Cons
Ivanti
  • Licensing can be complex and is fairly expensive. I did not research other ITAM solutions as we use the entire Ivanti suite to see how pricing compares, but it does seem expensive.
  • Be careful when you are building you CMDB module in the Ivanti Service Desk tool, we found the hard way that create custom CI processes requires an ITAM license.
  • We have submitted a few bugs and the resolution from support seems slow. I find this is common with many vendors, but was hoping for better resolution times with Ivanti.

Lansweeper
  • Can only scan what it sees. Doesn't show every item on the machine. Patches are also absent.
  • Software Recognition is OK with Microsoft. It is dire within our network of multiple products. Recognition is at about 35% with constant manual work needed to baseline for each manufacturer in each network
  • Datacenter compliance is a manual project. We used Excel extensively.
  • License optimization is limited to installations v surplus licenses. We need to know who's using what and how.

  • Needs web based storefront for requesting new software
  • Needs ability to manage the packaging work flow better
  • Sometimes is slow to download and there is no indication the entire catalog is being loaded, resulting in confused users not being able to find common software in the available list.

The tool is a web gui, and is mostly easy to navigate, but certain areas are more unclear than others. Identifying what im filtering for, or what menu option has what impact can be less straightforward than I'd like. Overall though, this tool will provide me with information other tools in my box just don't.

Microsoft
It is not user-friendly for the most part. With IT infrastructure, sometimes it cannot handle excess requests. Every few months, you will need an upgrade in terms of server resources to keep up with incoming alerts and requests. This does not happen all of the time, but it does happen when there are too many requests.

Lots of info online there are tons of SQL Reports you can copy from the web as Lansweeper and users post many of them. They also send out alerts that pop up on Lansweeper, letting you know of an update that you need for certain software and provide an SQL report so you can scan your system to see what PCs need this update.

If I had to dislike something about the system it would be how much it changes once you upgrade. This could be more of a problem of mine since I get used to one way and don't like it when it changes so much. I am enjoying the newest update, but it is a mess when you are actually going through the upgrades.

In short it has more features and its a more robust solution and it works well with those solutions. I am sure it will keep track with Ai and action recommendations in the future as I didnt see any of it on the platform (at least the one we use) I thin that is the only thing that is missing in the current product

We previously used a mix of FOG and Clonezilla to image machines. The biggest issues with these products is that changing one piece of the image required you to rebuild the entire image itself. These pieces of software also did not allow you to manage applications and Windows Updates, causing IT to have to constantly touch machines after they were imaged and update or manage them with a much more hands on approach.

Return on Investment
Ivanti
  • We have seen tremendous ROI with custom processes set up to manage the lifecycle of our assets. This was a huge void for us previously and now we can see when assets are coming/going and when they should be retired.
  • Integration with other apps via API has allowed us to automate manual tasks and streamline processes.
  • Tie-ins with the CMDB function of Service Desk have allowed us to create dynamic workflows to manage the lifecycle of assets and other related assets. Very powerful use case.

Lansweeper
  • It had a positive impact on solutions expense cause several teams we're using different solutions with different costs that used several servers and DB resources. Now, we've been able to simply that a lot with Lansweeper.
  • With my previous point, people had to train and learn about each of their solutions. Now we can put a team in charge and so the other teams can focus on other tasks.
  • Last year Lansweeper changed their licencing prices a lot so it slashed our budget.

  • We have been able to automate our patch management, firmware and other security concerns.
  • We have a standardized "image" ensuring our setup is consistent across the enterprise. This alone has saved us in time to support and time to understand how to use our desktops.
