Prophix
Chose Prophix
Several years ago our organization evaluated Hyperion and another competitor to Prophix. After several months of due diligence we came to the following conclusions. 1) The implementation and administrative costs of Hyperion were off the charts and much to excessive for an …
Chose Prophix
Prior to implementing Prophix, Myriad used Hyperion for financial reporting and Excel for budgeting, forecasting and international consolidation. As our organization grew and our processes became more complicated we were interested in a single tool that could balance our …
Chose Prophix
We selected Prophix over Hyperion due to following:
1.) Price of implementation and ongoing costs - Prophix was significantly lower in initial setup and ongoing expenses
2.) Ease of use - Prophix can be maintained by the Finance Organization without significant support from IT
Chose Prophix
Other parts of our company have used Hyperion. I have not used it but only seen it in action. From what I can tell, Prophix is a more user-friendly software and better for the base users who may not all be full accountants using the system along with us.
Chose Prophix
I haven't used Hyperion nearly as much as Prophix, but the main difference I noticed right away is the intuitive nature by which you build ad-hoc data view reports in Prophix. With Hyperion, there is a syntax that you need to know in order to build a data view. With Prophix, …
Chose Prophix
Way less expensive with sufficient functionality. Prophix doesn't have all the bells and whistles but you also don't need a dedicated IT resource or developer to run Prophix. For a mid tier organization, in my opinion, Hyperion could be overpowered. Prophix can be easily …
Chose Prophix
I used Hyperion Financial Management at my last company. Different situation as that was a larger global organization that had been on HFM for years. Prophix is much easier to configure and implement within a smaller organization. HFM may be the gold standard in financial …
Chose Prophix
I was not involved in the selection process, but I will say that Prophix is 100% easier to use than Hyperion and Cognos. It is very user friendly for those finance users who do not have a SQL background.
Chose Prophix
The price was one of the biggest thing that had us looking at Prophix. Also how customized it could be with us. Prophix was willing to work with us as a partner and not just have us take their out of the box product, but actually create our own with them.
Chose Prophix
I didn't select Prophix for our company, but it does some things very well. It is way easier to set up and maintain than Hyperion and BPC, which require ongoing support from our IT department. Prophix only requires us to involve IT when we need to map new external data or …
Chose Prophix
The learning curve to understanding Prophix is far less severe than it has been with other softwares. It requires much less time in order to learn how to be a beginning user and then each progression to deeper levels of understanding is remarkably easy. I appreciate the …
Chose Prophix
We chose Prophix based on the desire to make a paradigm shift away from Excel and towards a more fully-featured web-based SaaS solution that would still allow for the utilization of Excel where it made sense. Prophix does this through an Excel add-on, while more comprehensive …
Chose Prophix
Better drill across capabilities and easier to do quick adhoc reporting. Able to build complex allocation processes.
Chose Prophix
Initial presentation was effective at showing how prophix could be used to solve our problems. It was also a cost effective solution. Prophix handles the planning and forecasting process along with the financial reporting. Most BI modules or add-ons are good at allowing …
Chose Prophix
We worked with a consulting firm in our selection process and based on our company size and budget Prophix was the best fit.
Chose Prophix
Hyperion was cost prohibitive for a company our size, and was eliminated early in the process. We evaluated Budget Maestro and Adaptive Planning prior to purchasing Prophix, but decided on Prophix due to combination of lowest cost to implement/maintain, most intuitive …
Chose Prophix
We also considered Hyperion but the cost and implementation complexities pushed us to Prophix.
Chose Prophix

Compared to Host Analytics and Adaptive, Prophix provides more value for the dollar, especially when we deploy multiple models. Solution set is also comparably built out, so we are not missing any critical functionality. Self-maintenance by finance is also comparable to Host …

Chose Prophix
Prophix modeling is more flexible and customer support is more responsive. End users are empowered with ease of functionality that is lacking in the bigger brands. Design is more attentive to user feedback.
Chose Prophix
These products did not provide comparable applications and functionality for the cost. Their cost either greatly exceeded Prophix and the functionality did not justify the cost difference or the functionality did not compare. For the most expensive option, the enormous IT …

Well suited: For use in multiple offices around the world. I was able to obtain financial reporting data from 5 foreign offices and then consolidate their data with 3 domestic USA offices to prepare a consolidated financial statement. Less Appropriate: Translating the financial value for consulting services could be a bit challenging because that required human interaction and judgement. It would have been great to be able to set up some software to be able to interpret this and let it run for all future project work revenue projection.

Prophix Software
If the budgeting is done with Excel spreadsheets, and your company is small to medium in size, Prophix is the system for you! Additionally, if your company is also doing monthly forecasting in Excel, Prophix will save you time and reduce errors. There are also many other worthwhile features, such as Account Reconciliation and consolidations.

Pros

  • This product handles budgeting by Employee and/or Position very well. It is highly flexible and allows Hyperion administrators the ability to develop a planning application that fits a variety of different business needs.
  • It is great at calculating benefits using business rules to automate the population of these fringe costs in the overall budget planning process. This greatly reduces user error.
  • It allows you to seed the operating budget based on changes to key drivers, such as percentage increases, flat dollar increases and more detailed changes using business rules.
  • Allows visibility into the plans for each unit across the organization, rolled up into an overall budget for the campus.
  • It handles the creation of budgets with multiple chartfield segments or dimensions, which most other budgeting systems cannot handle well. It can aggregate these very quickly.

  • Reporting - single report that can be opened by multiple users, each will see only aspect specific to them based on their security access.
  • Budgeting - workflow driven budget data collection, visibility of its current status, ability to take action to ensure timely completion. Ability to snapshot budget data at a point in time. Ability to perform what-if scenarios.
  • Forecasting - as above with added benefit of either reusing budget level of grain or forecasting at high level.
  • Granular planning - ability to create unlimited number of subsidiary models to assist with the planning process. Non-financial data collected during budget/forecast process help with operation planning and variance analysis.

Cons
Discontinued Products
  • One pain point for us is the consolidation and translation process. Needing to translate the data over and over again is frustrating and there is no visibility into how many users are running a translation. If multiple users attempt to translate the same data set, say goodbye to your performance but you have no way of knowing! (Unless you want to pull up a task audit which is not a very realistic expectation). It has the been the quickest way for us to bring the system to it's knees. The consolidation process performs in direct correlation to the complexity of the calculation/consolidation rules. So, while the product is extremely flexible, you still have to be careful how you design your rules and calculations to make sure that you do it on the smallest subset of data as possible to avoid large processing times. This makes sense, but requires some significant expertise that most organizations do not have in-house.
  • The Hyperion Financial Reporting product is ridiculously outdated and clunky to use. The interface for designing reports is not intuitive, and not easy to modify once a report is built. I think there must be a strategic decision to move away from it and go to something more like Oracle BI because I just can't understand why in the world they don't update the reporting product. It also requires a significant level of expertise to be able to use. Not a great solution at all if you want multiple end-users to create reports in something other than Excel. Nobody except the HFM admin (which I used to be) in our company even touches this module.
  • Another pain point is the amount of IT support that is required to run this thing, and again, specialized knowledge of Hyperion products and how they work is required for IT to adequately support it. This goes for application servers and the Oracle database that the applications are running on.

  • Prophix could improve on its dashboarding capability - it is very basic and we always present our graphs/visuals in Excel.
  • We would love it if Prophix could improve its line item detail reports. They are not great right after downloading and require a lot of manipulation in Excel.
  • It would be awesome if we could fully integrate our invoicing software with Prophix. This would allow us to view invoices within Prophix rather than having to go into another tool.

We're in the middle of the road because we are not sure that other products on the market fit the bill for what we need yet. Hyperion is expensive and burdensome from an administrator and maintenance standpoint, but it still seems to be the best solution for what we need. Show us an equally capable SaaS consolidation product and we'll talk again.

I have used other reporting software over the years and so far this has been the simplest to set up, the most flexible to use and we have not yet used Prophix to its full capacity. Over the next year or so I can see us extending our use of Prophix to include any number of other functions.

The availability in Prophix is relatively good. We have occurred random outages in different versions that wipe out data, which can be brought back. Or we have ran into system wide slowness that impacts all users in the system, but we have been able to get more capacity to supply our performance.

Prophix has always performed consistently. We are using on-premise so many factors can contribute to slower than desired performance, most having nothing to do with Prophix itself. If we move to the web-client cloud based solution I believe performance will even be better.

The premium support team provides much needed dedicated customer service which we are after for what we have paid for this service. We are satisfied with the service and support and do not have any instance where there was an issue that requires escalation to get the right support team. Though the incidence of major issues that requires the premium support are less, we prefer to keep this as a safety net.

I use Oracle Hyperion Enterprise Performance Mangement because the company I work at requires me to use it in the Financial Planning sector as most of their data is stored in it. I am open minded and ready to use other performance management tools created by Oracle if my work permits.

We felt Prophix was much more flexible than Briq and offered a more solid financial reporting and budgeting package. Briq is more custom built solution-focused. They build solutions to fit your specific needs. The primary reason we went with Prophix is that we wanted something we could tweak and design on our own after the initial build-out of the solution.

I gave Prophix a 10 on scalability because we currently deploy the solution to department heads across our entire organization and never have any issues with those individuals using or accessing the system to look at their financial information within premade templates . They currently enter budgets and review reports within the system currently. The only issue is they cannot typically use the ad hoc functionality because that would require higher level licenses that cost more and it is not worth it to give them more costly licenses since they really aren't working in the system quite like the robust finance users

  • Oracle Hyperion allows us to automate and consolidate financial data that used to be performed manually in spreadsheets. From that perspective the ROI is huge.
  • Oracle Hyperion functionality is extensive and allows us to perform most functions for planning, consolidating and reporting on our financial data.
  • One negative with Oracle Hyperion is that it is complicated to implement and maintain. It takes expertise at all levels (infrastructure and management) to realize the benefits from it.
