Avaya IP Office - Telephony Powerhouse

Rating: 9 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I installed Avaya IP Office in a small private hospital. We were able to use mobility features to reduce the overall telecom expenses of the hospital. ARS table was engineered with LCR - Lease cost routing in mind. Calls were routed over varying trunks depening on endpoint - Mobile / fixed / International.

Pros

  • vpn phones
  • mobile softphone
  • remote voicemail access
  • mobile callback, allowing users to place calls from their mobile phones routed through the pbx switch.

Cons

  • licensing regime is not easy to understand
  • the deskphone feature set needs improvement
  • IP Office Switch should come with dual power supply for disaster recovery reasons.

Likelihood to Recommend

For the installation for SMB similar to the installation that I did it is ideal. Far less budget impacting in comparison to the much larger scaled Avaya IP Office telephony switches. The license cost if not mindful can grow expontial quite rapidly. However if you need a mix of IP phones, Digital phones, Analog Phones and varying trunk types such : SIP, T1 and Analog trunk this would be your best bet.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Avaya IP Office is used as a primary means of communication with a number of our customers. It has been a robust, reliable platform for many years and it still fulfills a lot of the needs of on premise telephony for certain types of companies, such as manufacturing and engineering where the workforce is less mobile.

Pros

  • SIP calling
  • Digital telephony extensions
  • Analogue telephony extensions

Cons

  • The Workplace app is way behind times
  • Population of information between 2 Server editions is patchy
  • SCN Links between systems are sometimes unreliable

Likelihood to Recommend

Engineering firms and specific companies where the workforce is primarily based onsite.

Firms where old style digital or analogue telephony is either a requirement, or the only need.

Dect systems where users will need to roam across a site.

Phone system that does what you require with additional features

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We currently use Avaya IP Office as our phone system. This helps us keep compliant with phone recordings, giving us the ability to pause when we are collecting financial information. It also allows us to work in the office and also ability to work away. The mobile phone app means that we don't need to purchase mobile phone contracts for individual, as this can easily replace this. Meaning we don't have to have individual mobile phone numbers but a single office number.

Pros

  • Phone receptionist
  • Fully customised

Cons

  • Use of desk phones
  • Recording access

Likelihood to Recommend

Easily editable receptionist, meaning that during office hours where we can create rules so the phone is answered or the right message gets to clients

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

It's a phone system. We use it to make phone calls.

Pros

  • It is a phone system. It dials calls, makes sure there's a secure login, and keeps securities actually quite good on it. It provides and allows for VPN access into the VPN phones, into it via SIP or via IP sac, and has a good voicemail system.

Cons

  • I would think it would be more useful if it was more compatible with the Avaya Aura solution as opposed to being a completely different stream. That's just my opinion on that one.

Likelihood to Recommend

Well, it seems to be well-suited. A distributed office like ours, which is over a hundred people in many locations, it seems to be suited for any kind of small business. I would not see it suited for larger offices or where there are two or more large locations. It does work in that area, but I don't think it's as well suited for anywhere over 500 to a thousand people.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

So not only do we sell the Avaya IP Office, but we use it in our office as well. So we use it for multiple things. Obviously, we have a small, almost like a call center team that we use the automated attendant feature call-in to kind of distribute the calls to where they need to go, let the customers kind of direct their own choices on which department they need to speak with. And then other things that I use it for, we use the mobile client to tie into. So as we're out those events like this, we can still get our telephone calls, emails, things like that as well.

Pros

  • So my favorite thing that it does well is the mobile client. It's very easy to use to access my contacts as if I'm sitting at my desk in the office. I can send text messages to other parties within my department as well. So that's the best thing. Staying in touch even though I'm not sitting at my desk.

Cons

  • So room for improvement would definitely be, probably, the mobile client is kind of glitchy sometimes, so definitely could be improved to make it a little more reliable.

Likelihood to Recommend

So I haven't had one where it's not appropriate at all unless somebody was going pure cloud. Obviously, this is not a cloud product, but from an on-premise solution like the IP office is, we've sold it to companies that have five users and we've sold it to customers that have thousands of users. So it's very expandable, adjustable to be it's hybrid, so it's IP and digital mix capabilities. So that's a strong suit.

Great all-in-one box for all your UC needs!

Rating: 8 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Perfect fit for an on-prem smb to Midmarket UC system that can scale. Nothing beats the feature-rich all in box system. Product best addresses the needs of client, who want a system which can work in their CapEX budget and will not have high operational cost(s) compared to full cloud platforms.

Pros

  • Scale
  • All in one box
  • Nimble
  • Flexibility
  • Compact

Cons

  • API Integration
  • Speech analytics
  • Contact centre
  • Workforce Optimization

Likelihood to Recommend

Perfect for smb and midmarket clients that are looking for an on-prem solution. Any customer that has many Branch locations which needs feature rich capabilities and can share centralized management. Same time, branch offices which will need local survivability and trunking. Less appropriate for a client who wants no physical hardware on site.
