Use Cases and Deployment Scope

BigCommerce is our hosting site for one of our e-commerce sites and we are currently in the process of migrating our second bigger store as well. BigCommerce has simplified many business problems for us. The hosting has made our systems more streamlined by allowing extreme customization, integration, and more. This has improved our efficiency, site speed, and sales.

Pros

  • Site Speed
  • Customization
  • Store management

Cons

  • Focusing on customer requests for improvement rather than "cool features"
  • Allowing further customization of products via export/import (Customizations, product templates, etc.)
  • Updating database resources to reflect recent updates. Much of the information is outdated.
  • Ability to use WebP or AVIF images.

Likelihood to Recommend

BigCommerce has been great for our company. After migrating from a very outdated hosting platform, we are pleased with both the simplicity and ability to extensively customize. The site is lacking in some areas (especially for large catalogue stores) and updates seem to address new features rather than updating existing issues. Overall, we've been pleased with the performance and abilities of BigCommerce.

Solid customizable workhorse

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use BigCommerce to manage several brand websites. One serves as a "catalog" with no items for sale, but customers can view product information, download catalogs, product specification sheets, and find referral links for purchase. We were able to customize the theme to support all these functions including programatically created embedded HTML panes for purchase links.

We also websites on BigCommerce from which we do sell items, and were able to considerably customize the purchase/add to cart interface to suit our products, allowing customers to simultaneously view and add multiple product variations to the cart via a table format.

Overall we have been using the platform for over 5 years and it has been a stable, fairly flexible solution without any major problems and we have been happy with it.

Pros

  • Product stability
  • Highly customizable themes
  • Easy to manage product catalog

Cons

  • Shipping (quoting, estimated delivery, tracking)
  • Fraudulent order prevention
  • Advanced/modern theme builder/customization

Likelihood to Recommend

Management of an online retail or brand presence. Multiple themes are available, and there are marketplaces for additional themes. Intensive customization requires technical experience or development team. Good for small to medium companies that require a stable, repeatable interface that multiple users can collaborate on different aspects of the website and ecommerce process.

Great Website Builder

Rating: 8 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use BigCommerce as a platform to ensure our community pharmacy presence is known both online and physically to our community we serve and also to health professionals who are trying to search for us. Further to this, we also use it to sell some products online to our community and nationwide.

Pros

  • Great customer support, always easy to contact.
  • Easy, logical dashboard to navigate while designing and editing the website.
  • Has a great abundance of resources online to help when designing your website and starting off.

Cons

  • Offering more range of third party apps to support our website.
  • There is limited customization that is allowed with the website.
  • Compared to some other website providers, the user interface to designing the website is a bit more difficult at first.

Likelihood to Recommend

Overall it is a good platform that enables to get a website to be started easily without breaking the bank and anyone can use this especially if someone does not have any background in coding. I feel that BigCommerce does not nickel and dime you with extra costs like other platforms. However, there is a huge learning curve at first to learn how to use their platform which is not as intuitive and there is limited customization as well.

BigCommerce BigResults

Rating: 8 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We were using a small company for our web platform. BigCommerce brought our website into current times. The checkout process is a night and day experience for our customers. Common issues we experienced before are non-existent with BigCommerce. Any time we have needed assistance, we've been able to get a BigCommerce representative quickly to offer support.

Pros

  • Checkout Experience
  • Smooth User Experience
  • Ease of Order Portal

Cons

  • Inability to easily build kit SKUs
  • Tracking number export limit. Only 50 characters can be exported to BC.
  • Required use of apps for some actions.

Likelihood to Recommend

BigCommerce is a great platform for a small to mid-size business to use. It gives small businesses a chance to use a big-time platform. There are times when it feels like we need one dedicated person to the platform. As a small business, we do not have one specific person to focus solely on the site.

BigCommerce chosen as the best ecommerce solution

Rating: 10 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use BigCommerce for our main retail website and a clothing brand that we also own. When we compared the platform to other leading ecommerce solutions, BigCommerce won with better SEO benefits and more manageable options included with the platform.

Pros

  • SEO
  • Support
  • Easy to use

Cons

  • Google Reviews only available on higher paying subscriptions
  • Google Merchant Center currently limited to 40k SKU's in feed
  • Facebook integration available but limited
  • Product feeds cannot be managed within the platform

Likelihood to Recommend

The support offered is very good with email, live chat and telephone options available. We tend to use email to log any support queries and compared to many other platforms they have proven to be the best at addressing any issues with most sorted within 24hrs. When something is urgent we pick up the phone and if they can't fix the problem there and then, they do get back to us with a fix or a work around solution to help us keep trading.

Great Platform for Complicated Product Options but Advanced Coding Takes More Time.

Rating: 7 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We are an agency that helps merchants build and maintain their stores.

Pros

  • Easy to categorize products.
  • Import/Export products.
  • Cart Recovery.

Cons

  • When you update the product name, it automatically changes the URL. I feel it is the most ridiculous feature ever, and detrimental to SEO.
  • No search in theme files, which requires a theme download to search. This should make it easier to use by adding a search feature.

Likelihood to Recommend

If you have complex product options, BigCommerce works well.

Simple Robust but quite expensive

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

- We manage our e-commerce store (Gold/silver jewellery) via BigCommerce platform.

- Helps with Catalogue Management, Order and Inventory Management. Since it integrates well with some marketing platforms like Mailchimp, we find it quite suitable for overall order management.

- It also has storefront module, which helps you design your own store.

Pros

  • Scalability : The platform's robust infra has amazed my team. We haven't faced any issues while scaling the store to upto a Million users
  • Multi-device Capability : The design of storefront is quite responsive, so our offering remains consistent across devices.
  • Wide-Range of Payment Gateway options : Quite good support for a variety of Payment methods, and that too without any additional transaction fees

Cons

  • Limited Room for Customization of Design Templates
  • Pricing Model : We hate the revenue based pricing model of BigCommerce. A concern for rapidly growing organisation like ours
  • fewer third-party integrations compared to Shopify

Likelihood to Recommend

- Best suited for Wealthy organisations (who can afford it at scale)

- Limited Product lines : It suits well for folks who have lesser SKUs to offer on the storefront.

- You're not just selling on your website; you're also eyeing platforms like Amazon, eBay, and Instagram to showcase your products.

BigCommerce is your one-stop point to run e-commerce

Rating: 9 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We have a retail and b2b store in BigCommerce. The best part of BigCommerce is that we do not have to worry about hosting, as BigCommerce hosts it on its own server. Ease of listing , selling and payment collection is very easy. Difficulties you might face is almost all additional features can be accessed using different apps which is chargeable. Editing an invoice from the backend is quite slow process.

Pros

  • Ease of Listing and making product sellable
  • Easy to navigate option for promotion, message, customer group, tracking
  • Hosting own in its server
  • easy return process and refund options

Cons

  • Editing the invoice from the backend need improvement
  • Addition of custom shipment link option
  • Option to give return period for each products
  • Option to add videos from different platforms

Likelihood to Recommend

It is easy to set up a store, list the product, add shipments, fix the theme, and make the store live. Connect your domain directly and you are good to go. Pricing structure needs to be either with an enterprise plan or a different pricing group, which should have built-in functionality.

Happy with BigCommerce since 2016

Rating: 10 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I have two BigCommerce websites, 1 is my ecommerce store and the other is for my senior dog rescue group. I'm also an admin and designed a 3rd site for a children's book author. The relative ease of design and features available made designing and running the sites a breeze. Being able to switch between sites from one control panel is a definite bonus.

Pros

  • Customer Service is always top notch
  • Good How To tutorials
  • Ease of design with no coding experience

Cons

  • Product drag and drop! I've been asking for this since 2016 to no avail. When the same products are in different categories it's impossible to organize them logically using the current numeric system. This is especially annoying when you are showcasing products in a holiday category that are also in other categories. Some of the products you would like at the top of the holiday category remain buried because you can't drag and drop.
  • Editing the appearance of invoices and packing slips is cumbersome.
  • Setting up coupons is not always easy and can be restrictive on what deals I want to offer. For example buying something from one category getting something from another free (like buy a pair of PJs get a pair of socks free) I don't believe it's possible to mix categories unless I just haven't figured it out. I get frustrated with the limitations because I can't be as creative as I'd like on discounts and offers.

Likelihood to Recommend

It's well suited to businesses with both small and large catalogs and there is room to grow and scale. I'm not really sure how it would be less appropriate. The site I designed for my rescue group, while it does includes a shopping section with merch to raise funds for our dogs, is mostly non commerce and it works very well and is easy to navigate giving our organization a professional look.
