BigCommerce A solid B2B Platform

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

BigCommerce is our B2B website that handles 100% of our customer transactions. It's an easy one-stop shop, and has B2B features that support large chains (e.g. Sr./Jr. Buyer)

Pros

Their B2B portal is set up for larger chains who have complex buying systems
Their templates are well thought out and easy to use and implement into the market place
Pretty good and responsive customer service

Cons

Although solid, they still struggle with their B2B module. Not a lot of expertise in this part of the biz
Sometimes their responsiveness to "glitches" in their system is slow.
Sometimes when they roll out new features, they have bugs, so we're never too eager to adopt their new features until some time has passed. Sometimes will feel like the guinea pigs.

Likelihood to Recommend

Easy to use. Fairly intuitive back end. Analytics modules are good and easy to use. Good for small and medium sized business.

Hosting our e-commerce website, managing customer accounts and orders, products, web pages, etc. Our digital storefront and theme is delivered by BigCommerce, and we use the limited native functionality to create a customer experience. We have a custom menu taxonomy, blog, and various third-party apps to manage subscriptions, reward points, and similar offerings.

BigCommerce lacks native functionality and has a scarce ecosystem of third-party support when compared with solutions like Shopify. Most of these third-party apps are extremely poorly-reviewed. BigCommerce customer support is extremely poor and has left us without solutions an unfortunately high number of times. When reaching out to their team to inquire about the possibility of moving to a month-to-month contract, they guaranteed us flexibility and reassured us that this would not be an issue. A couple of months later when following up on the request, after basing a project timeline off their initial feedback, they refused to honor their prior decision and were no longer willing to extend us the flexibility they had previously guaranteed. This was an extremely dishonest and unprofessional way to do business with a long-standing customer.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Moved away from Magento because of the work involved with upkeep. Switching to BigCommerce saved me a ton of time from constantly having to update for security. Have had 99.9999% uptime.

We have used BigCommerce for just over two years for our e-commerce website. Our previous website was hosted on a platform which required significant experience and expertise to effectively manage. We can now manage the required website updates in-house with very little external help required. Our website functions with Avalara to calculate a customers local tax in all countries and provides excellent customer facing usability.

Cons

The link with Acumatica does not handle special characters well, sometimes adding multiple characters where one is supposed to be.
Google ads integration is a bit clumsy.

Likelihood to Recommend

For an e-commerce website this is the easiest to manage that I've used. Limitations on page layout have sometimes been a hassle but that may be due to the theme we've installed.

We use the BigCommerce as e-Commerce. It is reliable cloud platform for e-Commerce. It has strong built in features and provides the faster deployment. It allows selling via multiple channels like web, social platforms and marketplaces. It handles the security and compliances so we do not have to worry about the same.

Pros

It has good B2B features like customer grouping, net payment terms etc.
It has very well catalog management. We can have thousands of SKUs.
Strong headless support, we can integrate NextJS as frontend.
Built In CDN
Very well described promotion system

Cons

Admin UX is very fragmented
Theme customization is complex and template driven
Smaller app ecosystem
CMS is very basic.
Without headless, checkout customization is limited.

Likelihood to Recommend

It fits well where your target group is Mid B2B or B2C because it has well customer grouping and pricing, bulk purchasing and account purchasing. If you want fast launching it is good. If you are content heavy do not go for it because CMS is very basic. If you have customized checkout then also don't go for it.

I work for a company that has many different brands spanning a few different industries, from durable medical equipment to veterinary care items. BigCommerce provides us a consistent platform to house the various brand sites and their robust ecommerce tools make selling on the platform a breeze. We love how responsive their support teams are, and how compatible with third party apps BigCommerce has proven to be.

Likelihood to Recommend

BigCommerce is really well suited for someone who wants to get selling quickly, but may not have endless developer experience, or even web design experience for that matter. Their templates, even the free ones, are very attractive and supported by tons of third party apps. I think the only times it is not a slam dunk recommendation would be if someone is dead set on using another solution like Shopify, or if they are not looking for an ecommerce site and more of a flat website, this would be overkill.

BigCommerce is our hosting site for one of our e-commerce sites and we are currently in the process of migrating our second bigger store as well. BigCommerce has simplified many business problems for us. The hosting has made our systems more streamlined by allowing extreme customization, integration, and more. This has improved our efficiency, site speed, and sales.

Updating database resources to reflect recent updates. Much of the information is outdated.

BigCommerce has been great for our company. After migrating from a very outdated hosting platform, we are pleased with both the simplicity and ability to extensively customize. The site is lacking in some areas (especially for large catalogue stores) and updates seem to address new features rather than updating existing issues. Overall, we've been pleased with the performance and abilities of BigCommerce.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use BigCommerce to manage several brand websites. One serves as a "catalog" with no items for sale, but customers can view product information, download catalogs, product specification sheets, and find referral links for purchase. We were able to customize the theme to support all these functions including programatically created embedded HTML panes for purchase links.

We also websites on BigCommerce from which we do sell items, and were able to considerably customize the purchase/add to cart interface to suit our products, allowing customers to simultaneously view and add multiple product variations to the cart via a table format.

Overall we have been using the platform for over 5 years and it has been a stable, fairly flexible solution without any major problems and we have been happy with it.

We use BigCommerce as a platform to ensure our community pharmacy presence is known both online and physically to our community we serve and also to health professionals who are trying to search for us. Further to this, we also use it to sell some products online to our community and nationwide.

Pros

Great customer support, always easy to contact.
Easy, logical dashboard to navigate while designing and editing the website.
Has a great abundance of resources online to help when designing your website and starting off.

Cons

Offering more range of third party apps to support our website.
There is limited customization that is allowed with the website.
Compared to some other website providers, the user interface to designing the website is a bit more difficult at first.

Likelihood to Recommend

Overall it is a good platform that enables to get a website to be started easily without breaking the bank and anyone can use this especially if someone does not have any background in coding. I feel that BigCommerce does not nickel and dime you with extra costs like other platforms. However, there is a huge learning curve at first to learn how to use their platform which is not as intuitive and there is limited customization as well.
