Mautic is not Salesforce or Dynamics of course; it is hard to install, still buggy and you have to know what you're doing if you want to use it. But that is your admission fee to an always free system that does essentially all the same things as the pricey alternatives, does it effectively and gives you total control. Mautic was acquired by Acquia, the company behind Drupal, and has been making substantial upgrades since that seem to be accelerating. The system has an active user community, active development and will only get better, making it an excellent choice to grow with and build your own systems around and never be dependent on third parties.
I use Mautic's email marketing engine as a way to generate marketing qualified leads for different businesses in various sectors such as Technology, Cloud Computing, Real Estate, Electronics, and many more. The structure of Mautic is easy to implement and understand and the flexibility to modify Mautic according to the requirements is commendable. Mautic allows us to run email marketing campaigns to the various users and helps to keep track of different statics required in the reporting.

Mautic is well suited for users who do not require a lot of maintenance on the technical areas and have only the general requirements of the email marketing sector. In case the users have more precise requirements and are more focussed on the quality and a proper quantitative analysis, Mautic would not be an ideal choice. In other words for small companies Mautic would be an idea choice where the budget is a constraint and the extent of use is low but in cases where budget is not really a constraint against the performance and quality, Mautic would not be an ideal choice.

Mautic (open source) is a good start into marketing automation for companies with people who have some technical understanding or know people who have it. There are a lot of commercial alternatives out there that combine even some more functionality into one tool. But that's feature overkill nobody needs from the very beginning. The value of marketing automation campaigns is in the content and the campaigns. The tool is only supporting the magic. So buying an expensive tool with all the bells and whistles you might need in the future eats up the budget you need for creating content and marketing campaigns in the beginning. By the time you might build up a lot of knowledge to stay with Mautic (open source) for long time or if you feel some pain with missing features or bugs, you may still decide again later.
Mautic (open source) is currently being used as a mass-email and drip campaign connection with our HubSpot CRM. Some might think that this is redundant, as HubSpot does similar things, but HubSpot does not do it as cleanly, or more importantly, as inexpensively as Mautic is capable of doing these exact functions, plus Mautic has built-in connectivity to our CRM, and I believe also multiple different CRM's.
Pros
Contact List Management
Mass Emails
Drip Campaigns
Cons
Steep Learning Curve
Ease of Installation
Ease of initial connectivity

Mautic is well suited if you or your organization has the following: Large contact lists, need for mass email marketing, and drip campaigns. Also needed are your own infrastructure, and a tech-savvy person in your company in order to set up and maintain the Mautic installation. The cost savings using a tool such as Mautic, especially when connected to Amazon SES is un-surpassed.
Mautic Marketing is being used to change how my company does marketing. Mautic is a comprehensive marketing automation software and it is helping us to capture more leads from our website. We are able to track visitors on the website and send them automated email campaigns based on their website actions. Mautic allow us to easily move leads from one campaign to the next.
Pros
Mautic is very good at the tagging system.
Mautic is very good at tracking website visitors. Visitors are first marked as unknown, however, once you get a signup Mautic automatically updates their profile.
Cons
Setting up the email templates has required hiring a professional. The templates that are provided are not fully responsive.
More responsive form templates are needed.

Mautic is well suited for companies that are ready to scale their email marketing to the next level. We were using Mailchimp but found that it did not meet all of our needs. While it was okay at email marketing, the features for landing pages, tagging and dynamic interactions were limited. I would not recommend Mautic for someone who is just starting out though. It can be very intimidating. Unless you have someone who is well versed in email marketing automation, I would not recommend using it.
We implement Mautic for many of our clients as it is a very reliable automation tool. It helps us very easily convert and manage well-nurtured leads in an easy way. For our clients, it has been a top-notch add on. Reporting is very easy, uploading data is a piece of cake, we really love Mautic in every way possible. We recommend Mautic if you want to take the juice out of automation.
Pros
Forms are very intuitive, you don't need to be a geek, anyone can use Mautic.
Campaign Builder is very reliable, fast, and easy to use—you have so many features to choose from.
Emailing with just a single touch, you can set your campaigns to lunch whenever you want, A/B testing is really easy, a few customizable templates.
Cons
Reporting can be very misleading sometimes, but you just need to get the hang of it
When emailing, you need to know the exact time zone the server is set on, because it may not send the task when you think it would.
We think it may have more room to add more templates, the one the platform has turned boring over time— I think it would be an interesting update.

Mautic is a great tool, especially for rookies starting to use an automation tool. It has been very helpful in landing us great prospects that become clients. Once you get the hang of it, there is nothing Mautic cannot do. Great for massive mailing, campaign builder is really easy, and the forms construction is bliss. We would recommend Mautic all the way.
We deployed Mautic because it was able to get us into Marketing Automation quickly and easily. We had a small marketing team and were definitely on a budget. I was migrating us from simple email automation through Mailchimp, and I would definitely say in that regard, it was an upgrade. We wanted to get more into lead tracking, replace LeadLander for web tracking, be able to track documents and quickly build out emails and landing pages.
Pros
Cool automation and flow builder - very visual and easy to follow and understand.
Simple to use, the interface is clean.
Integration with Salesforce was a snap - not too difficult or involved.
Focus items! Love this concept - Javascript flyouts with buttons and forms (if needed). Mautic is a trendsetter here!
Cons
Both the email and landing WYSIWYG was flawed, ran into errors and glitches.
Form actions were lacking, and simple automation from forms was problematic.
Focus items were buggy on Mautic landing pages... had to add through Javascript, and caused issues on the page.
Likelihood to Recommend
It's bred from an open source product and is a nice little automation engine. The interface is clean and easy to use, but it definitely doesn't have the bells and whistles of a full-featured Marketing Automation platform like Marketo, Eloqua or Pardot. It's easy to stand up and run with a 1 person team. If you're looking to do simple web tracking, forms and landing pages, and email automation, it's a solid tool. If you like the idea of quickly being able to add focus items to your website it is also a great tool. Keep in mind it's new, and there will be bugs and issues here and there, but Mautic's support team was always very responsive and quick. I would consider both Mautic and Act-On to be "break-in" marketing automation tools, and Mautic stacks up. Not ready for prime time, but will definitely be an upgrade from simple email automation!
We used Mautic to create a marketing automation pipeline. Inbound marketing was a staple of our marketing and sales process, so finding a reliable solution at a reasonable cost was important to us. We used Mautic to set up inbound marketing assets (whitepapers, guides, etc.) and trigger a follow-up campaign once a prospect downloaded the asset. We also integrated Mautic with our product demo to capture and nurture leads at that stage of the buyer's journey.
Pros
Free and open source
Full-featured marketing automation
Lead scoring and lead nurturing
Cons
Because it's open source, support is limited to community forums
Integrations and features are still being developed
Need to install it yourself, which can be a challenge if you don't have a developer on staff
Likelihood to Recommend
Mautic is particularly well suited for smaller companies who need a full-featured marketing automation suite at a reasonable cost. Commercial options are prohibitively expensive for small companies and agencies. Mautic takes a little work to get up and running, but once you have it configured, you're good to go.
If you need the support or onboarding training that a commercial platform provides, Mautic may not be the best choice.
