We are a consulting company who has multiple clients that we support with payroll, accounting, taxes and legal. We advise them on which payroll platform to use and then set them up and support them with bi-weekly, semi-monthly and monthly payrolls. We often use Paychex for clients that have fewer than 10 employees as it is an easier set up and more cost effective.
Pros
The site is user friendly
Assigned support is very responsive
It houses supporting tools such as requesting signatures for tax items
It offers separate benefits for no cost to the employer but good for the employees
Cons
There is often a disconnect between the Tax Pay team and items missing
There is no PTO tracker
Integrated items such as 401K can be difficult to troubleshoot when an issue arises
Likelihood to Recommend
Paychex is great option for smaller employers as the site offers perk benefits to employees at no cost to the employer. I don't see anything like this being offered at competitors such as ADP RUN/Total Source, Bamboo, Trinet, Justworks or Gusto. Also, the initial set up is relatively easy and the dedicated support for set up is great along with our regular dedicated payroll support.

I've been using the Paychex payroll services for my business since I opened my business over ten years ago. It's been a simple process as I report payroll info every two weeks, info is processed and deposits/checks are processed immediately. I'm notified by email when processing is complete and when checks are mailed.
Pros
Request for payroll information
Processing payroll
Back office reports
Cons
Reporting of PTO hours paid on payroll stubs
Access to specific individuals when I call with a question
Better search capability in the back office
Likelihood to Recommend
Since I've only had experience with the payroll services, that's the only area I can say it is well suited. As a small business owner, I'm pulled in different directions and I'm always looking to simplify my tasks. Paychex does that for me with my payroll needs. I like the ease of looking up everything from an employee's paystub to the quarterly 941s when needed for my work comp audits.

We use Paychex for Payroll for our small non-profit organization. We do not have someone that has the expertise to implement payroll and require help with it.
Pros
Staff are paid bimonthly
I get notice for payroll prior to the due date
If we need any other services they are very communicative
People are nice to deal with on the phone.
Cons
We have had issues with communication, I don't alway get responses from emails to payroll advisor.
One time the payroll was not submitted to the State and we were fined, it took about 9 months to be reimbursed for the error.
I never hear from the payroll representative, and when I email, I hear from 3-4 different people, too many cooks in the kitchen.
Onboarding new employees is very difficult now, it used to be easier, but now it is challenging and mistakes were made that took hours to unwind.
Likelihood to Recommend
I don't think it is advisable for anyone who wants personal contact and doesn't want to waste time. On the phone, I have had good experiences, but via email is is horrible.

We use Paychex for a multi-functional solution covering payroll, benefits management, training, and compliance-related operations. Our department heads can manage employee time tracking, PTO requests, and monitor overtime in real time through their standard Paychex logins. We're just getting started with the software, and we still haven't fully realized its benefits. We expect to nearly double our use of the software in 2026.
Pros
Payroll management.
Benefit enrollment & management.
PTO requests and approvals.
Calendar management.
401k management and monitoring.
Safety training.
Cons
I understand logging you out is a security function, but I'd prefer it not to log you out so soon.
The training we received for the team's meeting was subpar, in my opinion. Probably better geared for people with little to no computer experience. Very slow pace; we could have easily received all of this from some tutorials in a few minutes.
Likelihood to Recommend
It is a fantastic tool for having an all-in-one package. Employees can monitor their pay stubs, monitor their 401 (k) balance, sign up and manage employee benefit programs, and more. The software is easy to access on a computer or smartphone, making it very accessible. From what we've observed, even with a staff ranging from young to old, everyone has been catching on pretty easily.
I use Paychex to access our client's payroll reports. We need to pull the pay period reports as well as the quarterly and annual reports to record and reconcile the totals.
Pros
It is easy to setup access to view the client reports.
It is easy to navigate the menus to find the reports.
Cons
We have found that the Paychex reps sometimes aren't as knowledgeable in some of the newer state programs.
The client representatives change around and the new ones may not always be as familiar with the client as the prior representative.
Likelihood to Recommend
Paychex has sales reps in most of our service areas and so it is easy to find someone to give our clients a quote and assist with setup. Paychex might not be as cost-effective for some of our smaller clients.

Paychex Flex does the payroll services for our organization. I wouldn't have the time or expertise to handle payroll.
Pros
Payroll is completed each payroll period
I can access the payroll reports easily
There is a payroll coordinator to ask questions.
They are amenable to discounting the services.
Cons
I wish I could easily get a report from the previous pay period, it is more difficult to do that.
It would be great to have the reports that everyone needs already prepared in another section
Likelihood to Recommend
I am not always able to get what I need from Paychex Flex and sometimes I spend too much time trying to get the reports that I need. Getting help from the coordinator is not always easy either.

Paychex had very helpful webinars/topics that applies to every business and industry. Would recommend any business to sign up, even though you may process payroll through a different platform. Some companies only allow their clients to watch or view videos or webinars, but it's great that Paychex is willing to help everyone gain more knowledge.
Pros
Webinars
Blogs
Willing to provide for everyone
Cons
Solicit topics from users
Continue to stay informed of upcoming changes
More webinars
Likelihood to Recommend

Our organization uses Paychex to manage payroll, HR, benefits administration, and timekeeping. It serves as our primary system for processing employee pay, tracking hours worked, handling tax filings, and maintaining compliance with federal and state regulations. Our employees also use it for self-service, allowing staff to access pay stubs, W-2s, and benefits information directly through the portal.
Pros
Fantastic at processing payroll with minimal steps and issues and itegrates time-tracking data.
Able to procces garnishments and other type of payment needs.
Assists in easily onboarding new hires and storing documentation e tax forms, company policy acknowledgments, and direct deposit setup.
The benefits administration allows us to easily administer health plans, 401k deferrals, and life insurance.
Cons
Issues with unresponsive customer service. Frequent long wait times and we have difficulty reaching knowledgeable representatives
We have had issues with unexpected fees, unauthorized charges, and difficulties when canceling services.
We have experienced challenges getting technical issues resolved in a timely manner.
Likelihood to Recommend
Paychex has been well suited for our organization based on our payroll and onboarding needs. it makes streamlining the new hire process simple and takes away from pushing papers. There have been some issues with customer service in receiving the support needed which has been frustrating. However, it is not a deal breaker for our organization. We were told they are working to resolve some of the customer support issues and are hopeful it will turn around as we are very happy the system functionalities in whole.
Paychex is the service that we use in order to pay our employees. It creates paystubs and issues payment. It also generates end-of-year tax forms for employees. Overall, it is a payment hub for our company.
Pros
Generates paystubs which are available in both web and PDF format
Offers a platform where paystubs and other tax docs can be downloaded
Contains a simple dashboard making it easy to access important documents
Cons
I have no criticisms of Paychex. It offers all necessary services with no issues.
Likelihood to Recommend
Paychex is great for small businesses who are looking for no-frills website that their employees can use to access important documents. Paychex may not work quite so well for big businesses with customized needs, or gig workers whose payment situations are more complex.

Getting through to the call center without having to wait is rare.
Wish there could be tutorials when system updates and changes are made.
Reports can be hard to find if you don't know the name of the report you're looking for. Maybe AI could help with this.
Likelihood to Recommend
Able to correct payroll errors in a timely manner so as not to negatively impact employees.
