Overall Satisfaction with Adobe Acrobat DC

We have a very simple use case here - opening, reading, and printing PDF files in a work environment. As IT Manager, I push it out to domain-joined PCs via PDQ Deploy so that it is a standard part of the IT software estate. We don't rend to use it beyond that.
  • Opens PDF files
  • Allows user to print PDF files
  • Security-wise, it could be better - it's constantly needing updated
  • Not sure if it's Windows 10 or Adobe but it has trouble maintaining itself as the default PDF app and is regularly overruled by Edge.
  • Make it faster
  • Ability to load and render PDFs
  • Great printing functionality.
  • Regularly updated
  • Realistically, none - it doesn't do much that can't be done with a modern browser
  • Back in the day, it was the only way to view PDFs but not so much now I'm afraid.
It's very easy to use as most people don't do much more than use it to read and print PDFs however it can be slow to load, needs regular updating, and - historically at least - has security issues that seem to come about through mission creep (javascript enabled by default, etc.) I realize every software company feels the need to enhance and extend their applications, but really, how much functionality does a PDF viewer need?
Realistically, it's another headache I have, to make sure it's patched as regularly as Windows, Office, etc. I appreciate their efforts, but when so many of the security holes are in parts of the software that has little benefit to me it's a bit of a drag. A nice, tightly controlled app that does what I need it to is best for me and my users.
  • Foxit PDF Editor (FoxitPhantom)
Adobe Acrobat DC is the "Hoover" of PDF readers - it's what everyone refers to when they want to open a PDF file, even though there are several competitors. I've regularly used Edge and Firefox to open PDF files as I tend to have a browser open at all times and it's faster to use them than to wait for Adobe Acrobat DC to fire up just to view a form of drawing. For a while a few years ago I used to install Foxit Reader on all my network PCs as Adobe was going through one of its awkward phases, with poor security and questionable licensing ideas - improvements in the former and relaxation of the latter means I tend just to go with Adobe Acrobat Reader DC now.

Do you think Adobe Acrobat delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Did Adobe Acrobat live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Adobe Acrobat go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Adobe Acrobat again?

Yes

Adobe Acrobat DC / Acrobat, Adobe Acrobat DC, or whatever it's called this week (I've been using it a long time) is the standard in PDF viewing - it's seen off Microsoft XPS, etc. and it gives better options for printing PDFs than just using a browser. The interface can be a bit busy at times and it can be slow to load but it's definitely better than it's been in the recent past.
