Overall Satisfaction with Adobe Commerce (Magento Commerce)

In our company, as system integrators, we often encounter customers with a Adobe Commerce. Since it's completely modular and we usually do not develop the entire website, we can still work on our projects - typically integrations with third party systems or data import/export - by developing specific modules that we then deliver to our customers.

Pros

  • Scalability
  • Handles out-of-the-box Magento requirements
  • Highly customizable (is Magento at it's core)

Cons

  • Licensing prices are not for everyone
  • Licensing based on revenue
  • Still resource intensive (it's Magento at its core)
  • Good module marketplace (plug and play development)
  • The licensing scales with revenue, so the more you gain the more you pay
  • The initial investment can be high
At its core, Adobe Commerce is still Magento, and Magento has a steep learning curve. Adding to the complexity, the cloud environment is managed by Adobe, so you have to stick with its infrastructure. This means you need experienced developers to lead junior ones; otherwise, the development process can become a disaster. However, its customization capabilities are virtually limitless, allowing you to adapt the platform to almost any use case imaginable.
Shopify has the bad habit of charging transaction fees unless you use Shopify Payments, and this aspect only is usually a no-go if you have a big eCommerce to handle.
Salesforce has very similar capabilities and probably has a better ecosystem, but it's customization capability are way more limited.
I would use BigCommerce only for smaller eCommerce.

Do you think Adobe Commerce delivers good value for the price?

Not sure

Are you happy with Adobe Commerce's feature set?

Yes

Did Adobe Commerce live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Adobe Commerce go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Adobe Commerce again?

No

First of all, you need to know "how to Magento" if you want to move to Adobe Commerce. Second, you should choose Adobe Commerce if you don't want to manage all the infrastructure and requirements dictated by Magento, or if the cost of your current infrastructure is out of control. In general, i would start with Magento Open Source, get to know the platform and then move to Adobe Cloud.
