Overall Satisfaction with Adobe Workfront

As a project management/traffic tool, Adobe Workfront has both pros and cons. I used it a a designer, so my view is not as a requester but I daily use the Task List and upload proofs for review. We have a lot of users so it’s great that it allows for that and for custom workflows. I do find the ability to easily change due dates and add in steps (maybe another round of reviews is needed) very user-friendly.

Pros

  • Custom workflows
  • Organized task list
  • User-friendly task list

Cons

  • Doesn’t automatically move proofs forward
  • Proofing tool can be confusing for new users
  • A tool like this should almost be able to replace a project manager altogether but you actually have to have one to use this
  • Increased productivity on creative team
  • Helpful for time management for creative team
  • Negative - have to hire more project managers to manage platform
We upload creative briefs, proofs and final files along the way. So it becomes a storage/repository to save our files. We still keep our working files on a server, but with Adobe Workfront all users have access to proofs and most important final approved pieces of collateral in one place.
Once people understand how to use it, it can eliminate questions like “when will I get my proof?” The requester can easily open their ticker and see what step the proof is on, “design proof 1,” “legal review,” etc. and the expected date that step should be completed. (Of course, thanks to human nature, many people will still email you to ask instead of looking here first.)
My organization used Adobe Workfront due to familiarity with other Adobe products. But it was more manual than the system is replaced (DaVinci Workflow) so it was a struggle for my team at first. Using Asana currently, but we don’t have the full version with proofing so can’t compare directly.

No

Would you buy Adobe Workfront again?

No

If you have a dedicated project manager on your team, this tool is helpful for keeping projects on track and in people’s task lists. But because there is little automation, it’s very hard to use without a project manager. For example, once all reviewers have approved/rejected a proof, you would expect the proof to move to the next step in the very detailed workflow. But nothing happens until the project manager goes in, sees all have reviewed, and marks the step complete. So someone has to be actively reviewing all open jobs to make sure they get marked complete. It’s way too manual to be actually useful for us.
