Overall Satisfaction with Ahrefs Site Explorer

Ahrefs is my favorite SEO tool I have used. I have worked at SEO agencies and used all kinds of tools but Ahrefs has stood out to me as the best. The overall link data that you can see is top of the line. Seeing every link your client has and their competitors is important for strategy. It shows detailed keywords and rankings as well. It has been used primarily by marketing departments I have worked in, but at an agency I worked at it was used by the whole company.
  • Link data. How many links you have and where they point to
  • Overall their data seems the most complete on keywords and rankings compared to other tools
  • Broken link identifier is valuable for broken link building
  • Price. A little too pricey for small start ups.
  • Download row keyword limits with different plans. Other services I have used allow unlimited keyword downloads.
  • Felt like there were so many features and tools, that I never took advantage of the whole platform. More training may help.
  • Positive: Helped me track total links for clients and show them that we were building more links, which helped them want to renew and gave us more revenue.
  • Positive: Same with keyword rankings. Helped prove agency value.
  • Negative. It was too expensive for the start up I worked for, based on the SEO progress we could make vs the cost of the software
I like these other softwares too. If you work in an agency you will likely have uses for many different platforms. I do like the way that ahrefs indexes and tracks links more than anything else I have used though. I think it is very effective with competitive research as well.
I will always recommend Ahrefs for SEO software over most competitors if the company/client can afford it. It feels like a premium software which is always best. It is less appropriate for smaller companies like the one I currently work for. So if you work for a bigger company or an agency, I think it is always the right choice. If you work for a start up, there are other tools that can likely help you get similar things done at a lower price.
