Overall Satisfaction with Apple iCloud

I've used Apple iCloud primarily for personal use - photos, calendars, and notes. It's been very effective at getting new mobile devices up to speed. The Find iPhone/Mac is also a lifesaver - devices sync their location with iCloud, so you can see its last broadcast location if the device is lost. Apple is aggressive about promoting their iCloud services, and while it's easy to run over quota, it's a fair value if you enjoy the convenience of having your data accessible anywhere, anytime. I'll likely continue to use at least one Apple product, so iCloud continues to provide value on a daily basis.

Pros

  • Syncs frequently accessed types of information
  • Intuitive out-of-the-box configuration
  • Find my device feature tying GPS data into the mix

Cons

  • Turning off the feature / customization is difficult to find
  • More visibility into iCloud syncing process
  • Apple iCloud has increased my own efficiency and organization.
  • Helped significantly when transitioning to a new device.
  • Very helpful to access information remotely via https://www.icloud.com.
Apple iCloud does allow you to share data with other users, but most primarily use it like the name "My own cloud". Since most Apple devices are personal ones, there is inertia to add too much work-related documentation and attach it to the account. Therefore, I would recommend more corporate services, such as Box and Dropbox, for those purposes. In addition, these enterprise cloud services expose an API or authentication logs to allow organizations to monitor for compromised credentials. By using, for example, a User Behavior Analytics solution, organizations can ingest these authentication logs to quickly determine if a user's device or credentials are being used for malicious intent.
Apple iCould is useful. The standard settings cover most use cases. It helps with device migration, accessing critical information on the fly, or finding a misplaced device. It is not meant for team collaboration or to share with others, so there are limitations in those functionality trees. Additional space is available for purchase - great that Apple offers a free tier to customers.
