Overall Satisfaction with Avalara
Avalara software is linked to our Workday Accounting software which we invoice customers from. Avalara connects with Workday to flag a product or service as taxable based on the ship to address on the invoice. We use Avalara for applying (indirect) taxes due.
We also use Avalara to file our state's sales and use tax returns.
We also use Avalara to file our state's sales and use tax returns.
- It is easy to do the commit process and reconcile sales tax transaction with easy export to Excel
- Easy to file sales tax returns
- Easy to add exemption certificates or resale certificates to the AvalaraCertCapture and flag a customer as exempt from tax
- Please approve the ability to amend a return or change a invoice that has already been committed, for example after a sales tax return has been committed the customer tells us they are exempt from tax but we have already filed the Texas return or the customer claims practical use of our software in Texas, there is no way to push through the error or credit to get our money back but to paper file an amended return for the period.
- I have noticed issues with city tax rate changes, at the beginning of this year we had a customer ask us why we were charging 10.5% when the rate according to law in the City of Chicago was 5.25% lowered for leased property; we have noticed other times where city rates were not right.
- Positive is once it is up and running the costs are low and subscription fees are reasonable.
- Negative is it took a lot of time and implementation to set up, you need to do a lot of testing and assign each product a product code and make sure the product code is working right.
- Our organization uses Avalara for filing returns and exemption certificate management. We use Avalara CertCapture and Avalara Admin Console.
