Overall Satisfaction with Avalara AvaTax

Their communication with customers needs to be improved. However, I just called Customer Support by adding a new State and they (she) was very good.
It's not perfect, but with the exception of month-end or a return of the product, I don't need to interact with it. That saves me a lot of time and time is money.
We use WooCommerce as our e-commerce retail solution. AvaTax (Avalara) connects right to Woo and calculates tax perfectly for the states where we are required to collect Sales Tax. Monthly AvaTax files our sales tax return and arranges payment from our bank. My interaction (besides setup) is confirmation of data at month's end and reconciliation with our G/L account. Pretty mindless once setup is done.

  • While it works perfectly with WooCommerce sales, it doesn't handel returns, requiring me to manually correct my book of record (AvaTax).

All sales in specific states have sales tax calculated. Extremely easy install on WooCommerce side.

None, they were the go-to product.
As long as an API exists, it is well suited. The setup of the plugin was relatively simple, straightforward and adding additional reporting entities (states) at least in WooCommerce) is as simple as adding that State to a drop-down box. One can also import transactions (like from Amazon), which I will need to learn and perform within the next 60 days.
