Overall Satisfaction with BambooHR®

Our first desire was to have an application that would allow time sheets to flow through to payroll. BambooHR does much more than that, and we use it for housing employee information, benefits, time, paid time off, and payroll. It took us from a somewhat manual process combined with a computer process, to a complete relatively seamless computer process for running our payroll.

Pros

  • Provides great visibility and request/approval process for employees' Paid Time Off
  • Provides timekeeping ability with flow through to payroll process.
  • Houses all employee data in one place!

Cons

  • Notices for approving hours don't always coincide with pay periods well.
  • Payroll reports are by pay period without the ability to combine hours, etc. into a monthly report.
  • There is not an easy way to fix payroll errors. Must get it right the first time.
  • Saves 4-5 hours per pay period over manually compiling and entering time.
  • Allows employees to view their time off balance and request PTO without paper forms. Saves 2-3 hours per pay period over manual process.
  • We no longer have to create PTO reports after each pay period. Managers can easily see how many hours an employee has available when they request PTO. Saves lots of headache and frustration.
For employees, BambooHR is extremely easy to use. We chose BambooHR over a similar human resources product because of its inviting screen presence. BambooHR has lots of white space and everything is demarcated well. Administrators, however, must know the product well to be able to navigate easily and use it efficiently.
Support is great. As mentioned before, the support staff is very friendly in telling you how the product works. When the product works for your situation, everything is great. Sometimes what they tell you is not what will fix your situation, and you are left trying to figure out how to do something without the benefit of the product.
We've used the reports to enter information into the accounting system. We've also been able to quickly tell how many employees we have at each location as well as how many employees we have by division (which is not always the same.) The report builder is good. Experience with the report builder makes it much easier to navigate. Using this system along with its report functionality has saved us time for all reporting we have to do that is related to our human resources.
We tried using QuickBooks Time to get employee hours to flow through to our payroll system with QuickBooks Online, but it did not protect the integrity of our accounting data and caused a major catastrophe. Once we recovered, we did not decide to keep trying to use QB Time and QB Payroll. The only drawback to using BambooHR is having to enter payroll information into our accounting system through journal entries rather than it occurring automatically.

BambooHR does many things well, but is not overly flexible. If you can figure out how to fit the situation into something it already does, awesome! if not, it's not likely to happen. The support staff are very friendly, telling how the program works, but not always helping fix the situation.
