Overall Satisfaction with Basecamp
We use Basecamp to manage tasks, communication and documents with our clients. Instead of just using email (where things would be easily lost), we create a project for each client to keep projects on track and to have a centralized location where everything related to the project lives. This makes it much easier to find things or reference past communication without having to waste time sifting through past emails.
Pros
- Task management - It is very easy to add, organize and discuss tasks within Basecamp's interface.
- The "Campfire" function is great for communicating when you just have a quick question for someone on the team.
- Notifications - Basecamp lets you decide how often and about what you'd like to be notified. The ability to respond to messages in Basecamp directly via email saves a lot of time.
Cons
- I wish Basecamp had more view options. For example, it'd be nice to have a built in gantt option like other task management tools have.
- Basecamp does not have the ability to add subtasks to tasks.
- Time tracking is not built into Basecamp. You have to use third-party integrations if you want to add a time tracking feature.
- Basecamp provides a simple and centralized solution for communication with our clients.
- We were able to create a makeshift ticket system in Basecamp for clients to make new requests and it has been very successful.
- The added level of organization that we provide to our clients through Basecamp has had a great impact on clients continuing on with our services.
Basecamp if far simpler than ClickUp. We use ClickUp to manage our internal task management, as it provides more customization, additional views and more room for extreme detail in tasks. We used Basecamp for clients because of its simplicity and ease-of-use. Basecamp requires third-party integrations to add additional functionality (like time tracking and gantt charts) whereas for ClickUp, much of that functionality is built-in.
