Great Cross-browser live mobile device testing support
Overall Satisfaction with BrowserStack
I have repeatedly used Browserstack ever since I discovered this tool back when I was the first QA resource at a small web agency. It gave us an edge above other competitors in the CMS implementation space because we were able to provide a thorough list of devices we would test against in our contract and then utilize Browserstack to hit that commitment. We mostly used it to supplement real device testing on new websites we were designing/integrating and gave us the confidence we needed to have a thorough QA signoff process.
At the time I even reached out to Browserstack a few times with issues we noticed and were able to collaborate on fixes. When I moved on from that company, I still took Browserstack with me, often using just a small person account to confirm things when needed. Whenever possible I would suggest the tool as an official tool for my teams and we ended up using Browserstack at several other companies I have worked for.

Pros
- Reliable cross-browser, cross-device testing
- integration with JIRA to add screenshots directly to bugs etc
- Live mobile device testing for an extra layer of confidence
- Customer support has been very consistent and reliable
- User interface is incredibly simple to use and easy to train new users on
Cons
- Although real mobile device testing is advertised, I found that sometimes there were minor discrepancies with how something could look on a device in front of me vs Browserstack. It wasn't often and customer service was always quick to work with me on this.
- Reliability/uptime isn't quite as high as I would expect
- I was with Browserstack back in 2014 when they had their security breach and I wasn't super happy about that, but they've done well since then so I'll let that one slide.
- Cross-browser testing support
- Real device testing support
- JIRA integration
- Browserstack improved our internal confidence level when it came to signing off on testing
- Browserstack improved the confidence level of our clients by decreasing the number of bugs found during PVT and providing an entry level opportunity for our clients to perform UAT using the same tools.
At the web agency I worked at, it was total chaos before we found Browserstack. Sales was adding in random browser versions and mobile devices that weren't relevant or correct and we had no way to truly test what was being promised to clients. Browserstack helped add clarity to the chaos and has continued to do so across the several companies we have used it at. It's just not realistic to have a million real devices or browser versions available locally.
- Live
- App Live
- Automate
- Test Management
Browserstack met our needs by providing a level of cross browser and cross device testing that we weren't able to realistically match before we found the product, and integrations with things like JIRA decreased manual testing time.
- Sauce Labs and BitBar
I actually tried BitBar back when they were still called CrossBrowserTesting. They offered a free trial when Browserstack got hacked in 2014. I wasn't a huge fan of their service vs Browserstack, mainly because the UI was less intuitive. I ultimately ended up going back to Browserstack.
I tried SauceLabs in 2017 when we were evaluating different options for testing against some loan websites I was supporting. We still ultimately went with Browserstack due to its superior UI/UX and ease of use.
