Overall Satisfaction with Catchpoint

We have installed OnPrem Catchpoint agents within our company data centers. Three divisions are set up to segregate departments and run 1500+ scripts to monitor our company applications internally and externally—1500+ scripts, including most of the monitor types that Catchpoint has provided. Most scripts do simple HTTP ping to check the application servers' availability.

Pros

  • OKta MFA.
  • Live Chat support.
  • Script export function.

Cons

  • The targeting and scheduling should be separated into multiple sections. It causes troubles whenever the nodes are changed.
  • The script detail page does not have the folder link, hard to use.
  • Export details of a list scripts.
  • App high availabilities.
  • Decrease outages time.
Thanks to the CP support, they are usually willing to provide support. They are knowledgeable, patient, and friendly. Overall, support, especially the live chat support, is good. But whenever a request needs to be escalated to the engineering team, it almost always takes a long time, even if it seems not that hard, e.g., getting some statistics from back servers.
It is not easy to set up the on-premise CP agents within our company due to the strict security policy. We have tried very hard to make the installation and update processes smoothly. Every time we make changes, we have to test in the pre-prod environment first. Once the changes within the pre-prod environment are PIVed and work fine, we can create a CR to promote to prod.
Smart Bear Foglight Dynatrace CEM Catchpoint: I have used many synthetic monitoring products. Honestly, there are no big differences in features among all the products listed above or that I have used before. Probably, price and support might play big roles in selecting the products. I do not know the prices of these products.

The CP scripting documents do not have many useful sample snips or codes. Many times, we have contacted the live chat support for details, confirmation, or support. Although the live chat can be very friendly and helpful, a better document would be helpful. The document has many inconsistent contents, and some syntax/commands/macros are case inconsistent.
