Overall Satisfaction with Catchpoint

We use Catchpoint to conduct transaction/playwright tests, and monitor the performance, by using different nodes across all over the world. We care about around-the-world coverage, and the performance differences. This is how the Catchpoint meets our use case, and we utilize nodes locations, and detail waterfall chart to understand the performance overall.

Pros

  • node location
  • easy to write the script
  • no downtime
  • details of the performance
  • good chart/visualization

Cons

  • Scripts, like transaction and playwright, not stable
  • very easy to fail my case, without legit reason
  • no version control, this is a huge pain point for me
  • lack of organizations of the project
  • fewer outages
  • very easy to identify the issue of performance bottleneck
It was pretty quick. The learning curve is short and simple, and we spend probably a week to setup everything and ready to go.
I only use very few times the customer services. I think they are quite responsive and indeed answer my needs and questions.
Catchpoint is mimicing human to test by the steps. It is very different. It can see each step's performance. In Dynatrace I have used, it is more like backend monitoring, it won't be able to let you design based on your use case.

1. if it is a global company, that the services covers everywhere, it is very worth to use different node locations
2. it has webhook, which means if you have other data warehouses or data lake, it can provide the functionality to connect via API
3. if you want quick test, it is very easy and quick to set up
