Overall Satisfaction with Cisco AnyConnect

I use it to connect to on-Prem and Legacy IT resources. Whenever I'm not in the office, whenever I am in the home office, AnyConnect is the enabler that gives us the opportunity to work from anywhere.
  • Any Connect is building a stable VPN connection across any different kinds of networks. So it gives me the assumption that I will be sitting in the office and work locally on my workplace, but I get this assumption nearly from everywhere.
  • That's really difficult. And when you see that, I'm thinking longer. You see this means the product is almost perfect and there's less room for improvement. Maybe the topic of global presence should be solved easier, and I mean global roaming. So that means I should not select by myself that I would go into the company via our ASA in the USA or an SA in China. The product should itself see according to the distance where I'm next to and the log me in where it's best. So a global roaming feature I would say could be some room for improvement.
  • AnyConnect enabled the company, especially during the pandemic time, the whole workforce could go from one day to another into their home offices and quarantine and from this time on work from home in a very stable way as they would work at their workplace. So we are talking about the 2000 connections instead of the 200 we normally had before the pandemic. And so this enabled the company to adapt to this situation and make the best out of it and be productive immediately.
Security plays a very major role. We are a machine manufacturing company and since we are a machine company, we are also a digital transformation company because we have to apply all the digital transformation to our machines. And since we're a digital transformation company, we also have to be a security company because security is a major concern within the digital transformation. And we would like to realize security by design with all our products and applications we provide to our customers because the customer relies on us, and trusts us and we would like to generate confidence with our customers. Therefore its security is very important.
Cisco is one of our core partners besides Microsoft and SAP. And so yes, we are utilizing very many projects from Cisco. I would mention the whole networking equipment, the routing equipment, the wireless LAN, and also when it comes to infrastructure to compute infrastructure, we are utilizing Cisco servers within our converged infrastructure Flex spot. So we have been running a flex bot from Cisco, NetApp, and VMware for 12 years, and we are still very satisfied with the product. We are looking forward to upgrading to the newest blades and fabric interconnect to continue this journey.

It's well suited for the mobile task force we have at Engel for all the information workers, the salespersons, and the salespeople that are abroad and are not often on the Engel premises but are on customer premises. So for them, it's the only really good tool to connect to central IT resources. But when I look to the future way of utilizing cloud resources and having a hybrid approach and having SaaS services like Salesforce, which are running natively in the cloud, then AnyConnect might not be suitable for them because anyway, I have a direct connection via an HTTPS tunnel to run all my SAS applications. I would not see any benefit of using AnyConnect in this case. So the more a company runs in the cloud, the less it needs AnyConnect.
