Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Catalyst Switches
Our organization grew from a few hundred users to more than 2000 users and devices on the network and this growth meant the need for much better and manageable network switches which are able to handle the huge growth in network traffic. Our current network switches went belly up under this load and we decided to replace them with Cisco Catalyst switches. Since the replacement, they have been very reliable and improved the availability of our network.
- VLANs
- SFPs
- RSTP
- NTP
- POE
- Reduce licensing cost.
- GUI based management.
- Cost effective central management tool.
- Improved uptime of overall network.
- Network traffic segmentation with VLANs.
- Improved network security with VLANS, AAA and ACLs.
- Eliminating network loops with RSTP.
Cisco Catalyst switches can be managed individually via CLI or centrally via Cisco Prime but Prime is a expensive tool and not very easy to maintain. In our organization Cisco catalyst switches are being managed individually and we have benefited from many features of these switches like RSTP, NTP, configuration archive, AAA, SSH etc.
D-Link switches are nice switches with many features. They are also less expensive as compared with other options in the market. However, they are not built to handle large amounts of traffic in large enterprise networks or ISPs networks. Cisco Catalyst switches on the other hand are enterprise-grade switches which perform really well under heavy loads.
