Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE)

We use Cisco Identity Services Engine for customer PoCs dealing with DOT1x authentication and TACACS authentication primarily.

Pros

  • Very customizable
  • Can work with many different types of devices
  • Good out of the box functionality for dot1x and wireless auth

Cons

  • Dear God do I HATE the new style of creating objects (auth profile components)
  • Still can be buggy
  • Some activities are not straight forward (e.g. setting up TACACS)
  • It is a functional dot1x authentication engine
  • Works well for multiple pocs at a time with rules nesting
  • Works well for TACACS authentication, with some setup
