Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE)
We use Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE) in our environment to authenticate and authorize users when logging into network equipment. We keep the logs to track which users logged in and what changes were made. We also integrate Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE) PIC with our AD to feed our cisco firewalls user information to enforce security policies.
Pros
- Integrates with AD for user information
- Provides user identity and authorization when logging into cisco devices
- Keeps log audit for which users logged into cisco devices
Cons
- Takes a long time to upgrade
- Backup process takes a while
- Lots of segmentation functionality but takes time to setup
- Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE) integrates well with other cisco systems to provide login security
- Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE) provides AD information to cisco firewalls
- In our experience, Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE) does not provide much segmentation value compared to the cost of implementation
- Cisco Catalyst Center, ExtraHop Performance Platform and Infoblox DDI (BloxOne)
Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE) is great for integrating well with other Cisco products but Infoblox is more vendor agnostic and can provide ways to manage a variety of systems. However since Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE) uses TACAS for cisco switches it is essential for user logins to use Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE) since it is really the only solution for providing this feature.
