Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Meraki MX

We used the Meraki Firewall to manage our internet traffic and VPN. This unit allowed us to safely connect out workforce from our Windows and Mac systems. We purchased the Advanced Threat protection to filter out malware and keep track of attempts to infiltrate our systems. It did an excellent job for the 80 employees we were looking to protect.
  • ATP- Blocked infected guest devices from doing harm when they attached to our network
  • Offered a zero cost VPN
  • Layer 7 visibility of all broadband traffic
  • No manual, there is very little documentation for this system
  • No integration with other Cisco hardware
  • Product requires current licensing to function at all

Do you think Cisco Meraki MX delivers good value for the price?

No

Are you happy with Cisco Meraki MX's feature set?

Yes

Did Cisco Meraki MX live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Cisco Meraki MX go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Cisco Meraki MX again?

No

  • 1 intrusion in the 6 years while we had it protecting or network, and that was user error.
  • Raised the level of expectation from what could be accomplished by a firewall and allowed for a larger budget.
  • Handcuffed us to Meraki to easily maintain interoperability.
The Meraki really does live up to the design promise. It is a joy to use. The interface is very clean and informative. I felt confident that the Meraki was doing exactly what we needed to without failure nor intervention. It allowed us to focus energy elsewhere instead of trying to keep up with user activity.
The access points did not need a separate interface to apply our logic to the traffic that was traversing the Meraki system. Without having to duplicate a wireless environment, we were able to focus on the traffic without worrying about the mode of transport. We had a great deal of granular control regardless of how an endpoint connected.
The Meraki system scales very easily. The configuration is monitored from the cloud interface, so connecting different parts and moving them around as needed is very easy. What it losses a little is in the opposite direction, differentiability. It is easy to connect things together but a little hard to keep them siloed.
The MX does a very good job. It is plug and play with almost no maintenance needed. It is ideal for remote locations considering even the firmware is updated as part of the service. It also works very well as a primary firewall for mid sized companies. Paired with the rest of the Meraki line, it integrates perfectly through their cloud interface.
