Cisco Umbrella
Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Umbrella
We are using it to protect our entire organization. We use it to deny access to mal-domains CNC fishing, etc. Filter non business related sites, I especially like that fact we can block newly registered domains that although it might catch a legit site, most new domains are high risk for malware, or CNC. I have used this in its free form at home as OpenDNS. With proper MS Active directory you can track requests by user. We have the option to integrate into our AnyConnect VPN client as well still working on that.
Pros
- It is easy to setup and they have very helpful onboarding staff.
- It took only a few hours to get it up and running.
- It is updated in Realtime by Cisco Talos Intelligence who are awesome.
Cons
- It takes a while to get the order of policies figured out.
- There is a slight delay in changes as it filters down to your client.
- Saves time we can have the benefit of almost real time blocking of threats.
- Helps confirm a PC is compromised, we can now see where it is connecting, out too.
- Helps to prevent with new domain blocking.
I can add an add on for Cisco AnyConnect and a client for PC to allow protection for PCs outside of my network being as it is a cloud based surface, if they have a connection they can use it for protection. If it is a remote office I can add the IP range for that offices IP gateway.

Extending our network protections to our remote workers, was the goal. We needed an Antivirus that did not need a local server, and DNS threat filtering.
During the pandemic, our organization rapidly expanded its laptop inventory from fewer than 20 devices to over 300 within a few weeks. As a long-standing Cisco customer, we relied on their solutions for comprehensive security, deploying Cisco Umbrella to filter DNS threats both on and off our network. Integrating Cisco Umbrella with the AnyConnect client (now Secure Client) proved highly effective, and over time, each layer of our security—firewalls, Cisco Umbrella, and AMP—has continued to evolve, bolstering our overall security posture. With employees returning to the office, our demand for robust Wi-Fi increased significantly. Upgrading our access points to Wi-Fi 6E delivered a notable performance boost, particularly due to the 2.5 GB backhaul speed, resulting in greater network efficiency and an enhanced user experience. We are now implementing Cisco Catalyst Center to further manage and expand our network infrastructure.
Life was good with the integration of Secure Connect with AMP and Cisco Umbrella.
I reviewed it, but the minor differences were outweighed by the seamless integration with our existing Cisco infrastructure.
