Overall Satisfaction with Discord

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Discord is only used socially by some of my fellow coworkers, it is not used in an official capacity. However, it is by far my preferred platform to use among my friends and acquittances. I appreciate the ease of voice communication, screensharing, image/media sharing, and the functionality of the general UI. The fact that it also has popular integrations with a lot of gaming platforms is a huge plus.

Cons

Better volume balancing between members on a call.
More customizability of the notification sound for each server. It would be nice to set each of my important servers with a different notification sound.
More expansive note section when you view another user's profile. I'd like to be able to contain more information there in a more organized way.

Return on Investment

Very feature dense on a free-level.
Easy to build a good sense of discourse and community.
Generally a more casual vibe than similar platforms.
Channels with a large number of users can be overly hectic to the point of diminishing returns.

Usability

Great usability! Very simple to pick up and get started, even as a new user. It also have quite a granularity of settings under the hood that can be tweaked to further improve usability. The amount of third-party services and bots offered allows for even greater customization and automation, and it satisfies a pretty broad range of use cases.

Alternatives Considered

Slack, Microsoft Teams and Zoom Workplace

Discord is generally very simple and easy to get started using, but still offers a great deal of customization and features. Furthermore, third party features and plentiful and well supported. On top of that, the amount of usability you get for the price is absolutely unparalleled. Discord is the only one of the platforms I would eagerly make use of in my free time when dealing with my friends!

Likelihood to Recommend

Discord is great for easy hop-in/hop-out voice communication with a group of friends! It's the easiest platform for hosting group voice chats in my experience, and consistently works well to do so. I also appreciate how easy it is to set up a server and configure multiple channels for community based discussion. The ability to share links, images, and other media is very well supported. It has a very strong balance of simplicity to use and granularity of control and configuration.
