Dropbox is a good overall tool
Overall Satisfaction with Dropbox
We use it for shared file space. All of our shared filespace is mostly used on Dropbox. We use it to share files internally among employees vs. having an on-premise file server. We use it to also share files with our clients or outside of our firm through invitation or public read or public read/edit. Depending on circumstance. We also use the hellosign part of Dropbox, which we like because it will work directly out of the working Client folder.
Pros
- File sharing
- Camera uploads/backup
- External file sharing via web (no client needed)
Cons
- Hellosign is buggy- in a multiple places - tough to describe in these little boxes - but we would gladly go through all the bug issues - we have eventually figured out go-arounds - but it has made us consider changing
- User folder under team folder - I don't like that at all - I believe there is a far better way to do it than that.
- Conflicting copy is very 2010+ - need to figure out how to get that part more OneDrive-ish. I understand that is probably a M/O365 benefit/hook - but still collaboration on a file vs. 2 different files is tough - makes me look hard at deliverables folders being in OneDrive over Dropbox.
- Dropbox app - need to have favorites working better
- Dropbox app - need to have notification recalls better or recurring - for instance - "XXX File did not upload properly" - so did it go away? I scanned it into the app and then moved on. For whatever reason it didn't work right, so I went into the app again to take another scan and it gave me this error. I am clearing through it because I am standing there with folks just trying to scan in another receipt, let's say at a restaurant, and, later, I go back in to see if whatever receipt from like 4 days ago it was complaining about did actually get uploaded. But because of this, I can't tell if it did or didn't quickly and I have to recall where I went, go through the folder and do it, etc.
- Dropbox App - scan - it would be great if there was a little AI/Workflow that when I have a receipt or a document it gives some suggested filenames from typical receipts and/or document headers in an effort to have filenames that aren't just dates but instead say: chilis-2023-12-19-11-24-32.pdf, etc.
- It's a good ROI and I don't have to buy a server.
